Sea - lubricant by Sliquid, LLC - review by KinkforTwo

Lube for Hippies

Overall Sliquids Sea has lived up to it's reputation. I found it's viscosity, slickness, and duration all very acceptable for a water based lubricant. While it still does not hold a candle to silicone lube in the slickness and durability department, it is a very good alternative if you cannot use silicone lube or play with all silicone toys. A great buy if you're in the market for a natural lubricant that actually works.

extremely useful review

This is a lube for hippies! Ok, just kidding on the hippy part but this is a 100% vegan lube from Sliquids. If you have read any of my prior reviews you may know that both my wife and I suffer from extremely sensitive orifices, we have to be very careful on the type of lube and toy material we use or suffer the wraith of burning sensations. So far this lube delivers for us. If you, like us have problems with certain lubes, materials and combination's thereof then maybe you should keep reading and see if Sliquids Sea is for you.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The first thing I noticed was the texture, this is actually a fairly viscous lube. Sliquids Sea has the consistency of a slightly thin honey (without the stickiness!) The texture is very slick and applies very smoothly to any surface I tried. There is absolutely no tacky, greasy, or sticky feeling to this lube whatsoever. Due to the viscosity of Sliquids Sea, it actually adheres to product very well. The dildos I have tried it on, the lube did not run all over the place or drip off at all. When applied in very large amounts, yes you will get dripping, but that is with almost any lube you try other than ones marketed to be super thick.

Taste / Aroma

Sliquids markets several flavored lubes (of which I am also reviewing) so it was quite a surprise to me when I tasted 'Sea'. There is very little taste to this lube, a very very subtle sweetness and that's it. I did not notice an aroma either, I find that you usually find these features in very very cheap lubes. As always this should come with a disclaimer, despite this lube being vegan friendly and tasteless you probably should still not eat it like it's candy. The same goes for their flavored varieties.

The meat and potatoes so to speak, 'Sea' performs very well stacked up against other H2O based lubes I've used in the past (Such as Gun Oil H20 which is my favorite, Astroglide, Wet, etc). The ultimate test for me is, can I use this water based lube in the shower? While that may seem like a dumb question, it is actually valid.
For the longest time I used only silicone based lube while playing in the shower with a suction cup toy (or strap-ons with the wife). While silicone lube works GREAT, it is sort of difficult to clean up. The lube gets all over the floor, and just causes a mess in general. Additionally silicone lubes cannot be used with silicone toys without a condom, and I hate condoms.
In my experiences the best water based lube I've used in the shower has been Gun Oil H20; and while you cannot play directly in any water stream, it seemed to handle water splashes very well and did not dry up too quickly. 'Sea' blows gun oil out of the water (pun intended). You still cannot play in any direct stream, but I was able to play for twice as long without reapplying the lube. And due to the viscosity of 'Sea' I had to use a SIGNIFICANT amount less. Generally I would use two drops the size of a quarter of gun oil, with 'Sea' I used a drop slightly larger than a nickle. This was more than sufficient to coat a toy 2" wide with 7" insertable length. Out of the shower it performed even better requiring about a drop the size of a dime to coat the same surface, after about 10-15 minutes I reapplied another dime size and did not need to reapply for the remainder of the play (was approx another 15 minutes).
    • Feels natural
    • Long lasting
    • Works with all materials

The lube arrived in the standard brown unmarked box, inside the box was a wade of brown packing paper, the lubes ordered, a 2011 catalog, and a packing slip. The lubes themselves were just packed in a clear plastic bag tied shut, each lube ordered (all Sliquids) were sealed shut. My order of Sliquids Sea came in a clear 4.2ounce (125mL) bottle with a nice neutral label. The label is very incognito, I would not think twice about leaving this in my bathroom cabinet or on the shower shelf. The label itself is also very informative and lists the ingredients of 'Sea' which are water, plant cellulose, Carrageenan, Nori & Wakame (Sea Weed Extracts), Cyamposis (Guar conditioners), potassium sorbate, and citric acid.
    • Discreet looking packaging

Special Features

Sliquids boasts the natural and organic quality of this lubricant as well as several additives. I cannot do this better justice than to just quote directly from their site: "Sliquid Sea is a water based and water soluble personal lubricant, blended with hand selected natural seaweed extracts. Each extract provides an added boost for your health: Carrageenan, while also being one of natures most effective natural lubricants, has also been shown to reduce the transmission of HPV (Human Pappilomavirus). Wakame is a seaweed that contains B vitmains, and reduces inflammation and improves elasticity in your skin. Nori is an algae that prevents oxidation of the skin and is a very effective natural moisturizer. Together, these natural extracts of the sea blend with our Naturals H2O lubricant, to provide a slippery, sensual lubricant with the natural healing properties of the sea." ( I can not lay confirmation to their claims, but from what I've seen so far it does seem to support these statements.

While we've only had this lube for a day, it performed well in our initial tests. From the shower to the bedroom it met all expectations. The one place we did not get a chance to test 'Sea' was with electrostim products. We typically use gun oil h20 for all of our estim play, and I would like to see how 'Sea' stacks up in that regard, keep an eye out here for the follow up review on estim components.
Follow-up commentary
I freaking LOVE this lube. It has easily nagged a spot in our toy bag as a MUST have. Alongside our trusty silicone lube for more vigorous play, this lubricant has time and time again shown that it can stand up to the best. From regular vanilla sex, to anal play, to large toys, electroplay, and plain 'ole handjobs. This lube does it well, every time.

If I had to pick ONE thing to complain about, after vigorous play it starts to froth up, but as I'm to understand, that's from the plant product in it, not anything else bad. That's the one bad thing I have to say.

Lovely review. The title is great! You're right, it's fully lube for hippies, especially with that seaweed extract I have been enjoying this lube as well. I was using Probe before, which is good but it leaves such a sticky mess afterwards. No such problem with Sliquid Sea. Plus I love sea creatures. Anyway. Thanks for the review ^.^
