Slick 'n' Greasy

For a first lube, it was alright. It got the job done, and I loved how many uses I got out of it for an affordable price. It didn't need constant reapplication. But I really dislike the allergic reactions it can cause and possible effects of the chemicals it uses. For this alone, I'd suggest skipping over this in favor of a more natural lube. Unless you enjoy the feeling of walking around with a greasy vagina... then this was made for you.

Use

I think the best use for this product is masturbation. As a female, I can't speak for the guys on this, but I assume it would be about the same. I tend to use it on my clitoris, when fingering myself, or using the occasional insertable toy/dildo. I haven't used it for anal, so I'm not sure what that's like. It is effective in helping penetration, since I'm rather tight, and getting wet when I can't do it on my own.

I wouldn't recommend using this for oral, as it is labeled as unflavored but has a noticeable sweet chemical taste and smell, which isn't exactly what you want when going down on someone.

With intercourse, it seems to feel very greasy and oily when moving back and forth and makes you feel kind of gross and want to shower immediately afterward. I'm the kind of person who likes to lay in bed for a few minutes when done masturbating or lay there cuddling with my partner after sex. When I use this lube, I have to jump up right afterward and wipe/wash all the lube off and wash my hands. As you can guess, this is quite annoying and frustrating.

DO NOT use this lube if you have sensitive skin! Seriously, you will likely regret it. Even if you're not likely to have a bad reaction, I wouldn't recommend using this, because of the ingredients it contains. It contains parabens, which have been linked to breast, testicular, and ovarian cancer, and glycerin, which is basically sugar - and can really mess with a vagina's natural pH and cause yeast infections (especially if you are already prone to them).

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture is very thin and smooth. At first, it feels very pleasant - it's silky, slick, and smooth - plus slightly cool coming out of the bottle. After awhile though, it starts feeling very greasy and oily. It stays just fine, but it starts to feel uncomfortable leaving it on my skin after a few minutes and then I feel like I have to go wash it off.

It pours out of the container easily without leaking, but is very runny and slippery. It gets on my fingers just by opening the container and pouring a few drops out. It does tend to stay in place after rubbing it in a little though, mostly because it just stays on your skin.

Taste / Aroma

This lubricant is labeled as unscented and unflavored. However, it has a light, sweet taste - sort of like sugar water. It's not unpleasant, but is slightly chemical tasting. The smell is similar - it's not strong, but it is present, and it's sort of a sweet chemical odor.

I don't really care for the smell and taste. I'd prefer something that's labeled as unscented and unflavored to actually be that way. It's not really gross or overpowering, though. It's just not delectable. For example, if you use this lube for intercourse and then perform oral sex, be prepared that you're going to taste it, and it will probably be a little distracting.

Performance

This product lasts quite a while. I use a few small drops and that's usually plenty to last until I'm finished. Maybe I'll reapply once halfway through, but usually don't have to. I really like not having to pour out a ton to get anywhere. This means that a 2.5 oz bottle will last you for a long time.

I mean, I've had mine for 4 1/2 months, and been using it fairly consistently, and the liquid level is still at the top of the label. Considering it's only $9, I would consider this a pretty good deal for your money.

I would not at all suggest getting the 8 ounce bottle unless you've already tried and absolutely love this lube and plan on using it very frequently. Seriously, 2.5 oz is plenty and the best option in my opinion.

So, this lube does absorb well into your skin - though you might have to rub it in, or commence activities for a few minutes before it starts to absorb. This is both good in that it lasts quite awhile, and bad in that it is HARD to wash off! Like I said, I hate feeling it on my skin after a while and just want to wash it off. I've found toilet paper and tissues are not usually enough. It may require a quick shower or I will still feel it on my vagina half an hour later - so uncomfortable.

Packaging

There was no box that this came in - it was wrapped in a plastic bag. I don't really mind this. I prefer minimal packaging. The label holds all the instructions and information, in four languages - English, Spanish, French, and German. The front reads "MEET YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND!", "H20 Water Based Personal Lubricant", "Silky smooth, silicone feel", and the brand name - JO - in large letters.

front

It also reads in small letters that it was made in the USA (a plus, I suppose) and the amount of lubricant in the container (75 ml/2.5 oz for me). On the side, there are warnings and ingredients. (By the way, tip! See those faint numbers on the top right corner? That's the expiration date, but it was barely legible when I got it. Please take note of that, and if it's hardly readable like mine, you might want to write it down. I wrote mine in Sharpie on the bottom of the bottle.)

Warnings/Ingredients

Warnings:

"If irritation or discomfort occurs, discontinue use and consult a doctor. Very slippery on surfaces. Clean spills immediately. Keep out of reach of children."

Ingredients:

(INCI) Propyl paraben, Methyl paraben, Sodium Carboxy methyl cellulose, Glycerin, Purified water (Aqua)

I'm uncomfortable with the ingredients used in it, but I'll discuss that separately.

On the back, it has some bullet points about the product. "Latex safe, washes off easily (I disagree), recommended worldwide by doctors and pharmacists, long lasting, never sticky or tacky, and the only water based lubricant that feels silky smooth like silicone." (Really, System JO, the *only* one?) It then includes directions to apply a small amount of the lubricant to "genital areas", plus inside and/or outside of a condom, if you're using one. Then it lists the contact information for the company, System JO.

back

As for discretion, it is extremely discreet compared to some lubes I've seen. The packaging design is simple and to the point, which I really like. There are no racy pictures, no bold letters calling it "climax cream" ,"orgasm gel", "sex lube", or anything equally stupid and obvious. The only mentions of what it's for come from the instructions.

However, being that it is labeled as a personal lubricant, I still wouldn't suggest leaving it out. It doesn't take a genius to figure out just what it's used for. It's just not nearly as embarrassing as someone finding your "INTENSE PLEASURE SEXY JUICY COCK LUBE" or something like that.

As for travel friendly, I would say that it is. It's small and portable, and can easily fit into a purse, bag, or suitcase. Trust me, 2.5 oz is way more than enough for vacation, even if you're going away in the jungle for a month. Plus, if you end up getting your bags searched at the airport, having them find something like that wouldn't be a huge deal, as I mentioned before.

Special Features

This product doesn't have any special properties, like warming or cooling, and doesn't make any such claims. It pretty much does the job of any other plain lubricant.

Experience

I ordered this lubricant nearly five months ago. It served me very well for the first two months or so, as the first lube I'd bought. I used it primarily for masturbation and getting toys to fit inside me more smoothly and easily. I also used it when having sex with an ex-boyfriend, as I'm very tight and lube made it much more painless. Despite the other problems I've listed, things went okay, and there were no bad reactions.

However - this is where I get critical. If I'd based it on my experiences just up until then, I would probably give this product at least four stars. But something really made me change my opinion.

I started using this lube when having sex with a different partner, my new boyfriend. After applying lube, a couple minutes later he complained about a burning sensation. We kept going, but it quickly became impossible. His penis was bright red, irritated, itchy, and in pain. Quick mood-killer right there. Worse yet, it stayed that way for several hours afterward, even after showering. Stupidly, we tried it again once or twice, but the same thing happened, and we permanently banned this lube from our future activities.

My boyfriend has sensitive skin and may be more prone than the average person to experience bad reactions from a product like this, but I still won't take a chance, even with another partner. I'm not going to buy this lube again - next time, I'll go for one that's natural and doesn't have the sketchy, irritating chemicals.
