"Corset"

A nice costume piece but no real lift or shaping. The bones are too soft for me to consider this a real corset and for the price it's not made as well as it should be. Beware of fraying fabric!

Pros
Looks nice, good costume piece, versatile, removable straps and garters.
Cons
Not very sturdy, not well made for the price, fraying at seams.

Well, there’s some good and some bad here. Firstly, I was really glad to see Edenfantasys roll out some new plus size lingerie. The full boned satin and lace corset by Coquette is a lovely addition to any lingerie collection. It is full boned, it is satiny, and it does have a lovely black lace overlay. What it is not, is a real corset.

This piece is boned but it is what I consider to be lightly boned with plastic boning. The purpose of a corset is compression and structure. So, while it’s boned and it does lace up the back, I consider this to be a lot more like a bustier. I imagine this piece works really well on women who are somewhere around size 12/14 and smaller. The more curves you have, the more trouble you’re going to have keeping the lacing from bunching at the back where it laces.

I find that I can’t really lace it as tightly as it should be laced without the boning kind of giving way. Also, because the boning isn’t very strong I don’t get the support I would have hoped for. It helps a little if you attach the shoulder straps but realistically you’ll probably need a good bra underneath to get the lift you’d really like if you’re a bigger cup size. This is also why corsetry is best left to the professionals who customize to your size.

So the bad news is that if you are looking for a real corset, keep looking. There is a reason you rarely find ta well made, real corset for this price. There is unfortunately another spot of bad news here. I fit the corset just fine with room to spare when the laces are open. But when I went to have it tightened, some of the lace and satin frayed. So despite the name, this isn’t meant to have any real pressure put on it. This is disappointing, for the price I did not expect a spectacular corset but I did expect something I could at least tighten up a bit like a bustier. For the price, I expected this piece to still be fully intact after only being tried on.

There is some good news here, however. The bit of fraying I experienced was easily snipped off and it doesn’t look frayed as it happened by a seam. I imagine however that if it did it once, it will do it again and this piece won’t have much longevity.

The other good news is that it comes with removable shoulder straps and removable garters so it can be worn over pants or a skirt or it can be worn with stockings. It is fully lined with what feels like a cottony tweed type material, however according to the tag the entire thing is 100% polyester, To be honest, I could see just turning it inside out if I continue to have problems with the satin and lace side. It could be used as a plain black bustier/corset.

Once on and laced properly it looks pretty good and I will be using for costume type events for however long it ends up lasting. It is laced properly with the ties meeting towards the middle and the lacing it comes with is something like poly cord. It’s strong but not very decorative so if you want something prettier like ribbon you might want to change it out.

The rivets (the metal pieces where the laces go through) appear to be set fairly well but given the problems I’ve already had I won’t be terribly surprised if they begin to tear out with time.
Polyester can usually be machine washed and dried but because of the more delicate nature of the outer fabrics and the structure with the boning this should be gently hand washed and hung to dry.

All in all it’s a pretty piece and it has the nice look of a corset but if you’re hoping for any real shaping, you should probably look elsewhere. If you are plus size like me, expect the bones to warm a bit where your curves are more severe.
Follow-up commentary
I have to say, when I first got this corset, I didn't think it would last long. I had issues with loose strings and fraying here and there, and I didn't think much of the plastic boning. I am pleasantly surprised to say I was wrong. It has lasted through several wearings. The plastic boning won't train your waist like a metal boned corset will, but I actually get a decent amount of shaping with this corset.

I highly recommend it as a lovely and sexy costume corset.

It's worth keeping in mind too that a plastic boned corset will be a little more comfortable if you plan to wear one all day long.
