The iTap-Tap-Tap-Tap-Ta...

This toy had a great, great concept and nearly got it right - but in the end it fell short just for being too easy to change the settings. I guess there really is such a thing as being too user friendly.
Published:
Pros
Strong, only takes 2 AAA's, cool touch-sensitive feature.
Cons
Touch sensitivity TOO sensitive to change, loud, not waterproof.

Firstly, I have to say, kudos to Cal Exotics. The packaging was not wasteful at all and was tasteful to boot. They included lots of relevant info including what the material was, and a warning to NOT submerge this in water. This is important, because a lot of people might think it looks waterproof - however, due to the way the cap closes and the lack of a rubber washer, it's not. This also means no insertion, and try not to douse the toy in lubricant.

Secondly, the toy itself. Well, I have mixed feelings about this toy. Looking at it at first, I thought it was awesome. The touch sensitivity worked well, and it didn't respond to anything besides me (like blankets or clothes or the bed etc). I thought it would be easy and straightforward to use. It wasn't, and here's why: When you're using this toy, unless you can just slap it on your clit and sit still all the way to orgasm, you will probably accidentally change the settings. If you grab it with your hand to rub it against your clit, you WILL change the settings, period. If you pull your thighs together in ecstasy, and your thighs touch the bullet, it will change the speed.

This is super annoying for me since I 'finish' on the higher speed and after that it goes to pulsation. I had moments where I was literally about to climax with it and then it would go to pulsation and I was just out of luck. Additionally, while you are touching it, it stops vibrating altogether. So if you touch the top of the toy on accident and it stops abruptly and stays stopped (for instance in the thigh clenching example above), you will be very frustrated.

In the end, the way I used this toy was by putting it where I wanted it, under my panties, and then using the panties to actually create the slight bit of pressure I needed. So, if anyone has the same issues I did, there's an idea for you to try.

Beyond that initial frustration, which I really felt needed to take precedence, the toy is pretty nice. I think it mostly suffers from being TOO sensitive, and without a defined area. I would hold the toy by the sides, and still occasionally bump the touch area. It is, however, very strong, and it has some nice functions. So, if it's worth the novelty for you, or if you're the kind of girl who likes that sort of stimulation where you aren't actually holding the toy but more grinding against it - maybe it would work for you.

A summary of the functions/speeds:
1. Moderate vibrations
2. High vibrations
3. Bzz-bzz-bzzzzz pattern
4. Bz-bz-bz-bz-bz pattern
5. BZZ-bzz-BZZ-bzz pattern

You must cycle through all these functions to turn the toy off. To me, this was irritating since you turn the toy on accidentally A LOT. When I was putting the batteries in, I would often turn the toy on by accident, same for when I took the batteries out, which would make it hard to get a grip on the already difficult to screw on/off cap (It has a very tight fit).

Another reason it sucks that you need to cycle through all the functions to turn it off is because this toy is moderately loud, especially on the higher speeds and pulsations. Considering the likelihood of accidentally turning it on, I wish that someone would have put a 'lock' feature on this toy. It seems to only respond to body heat since inanimate objects don't turn it on, but think about that for a moment. Say you carry it in your pocket and it bumps your thigh? Or you put it in a purse and bump it while getting something else out? It just ruins all hope of portability by being so loud and so easy to turn on.

The good news about the sensitivity is that it's easy to change speeds and functions if you want to. I have a small demo vid showing how loud it is, and showing the speeds and functions and demonstrating the touch sensitivity here iTap Egg Demonstration Vid So if you want to SEE how the toy works rather than having it explained to you, it really helps.

Taking everything into account, I really think Cal Exotics has a cool concept here, but it has some problems with practicality. It's a strong, nice vibrator and a great concept. The issue is just getting it to do what you want, when you want. When you can get it right, though, it is a great experience.

Technical stuff:
This toy is made of plastic, which makes cleanup a breeze- you can use many different cleaning methods- antibacterial toy cleaner, or a wipe down with soap and water will suffice, but please remember not to submerge the toy. This toy is also compatible with all lubricants, but you shouldn't share it without a barrier unless you and your partner are fluid bonded because plastic cannot be sterilized.

Keep these things in mind, clean your toy well and store it in a place where it will not get bumped around, and you'll be able to maximize the lifetime of your toy.

I think anything with touch sensitivity like that sounds interesting and gimmicky, but when it comes to sex toys, it's really not practical at all. Thanks for the review!

    Lauren-
I'm not sure honestly- since others have had theirs go off no matter what touches it, and I think this is mostly a research and consistency issue.

    Playful-
Yeah, I hear you there. It has a nice strong motor, but its just too easy to change the settings accidentally. Make it less sensitive, throw a lock function on there and round out the speeds (like three speeds instead of two) then, maybe, they'll have something usable.

I hear you on the lock issue. The better than chocolate even has one but it doesn't.. make any sense. LOL
