Mood naughty large plug - sex toy by Doc Johnson - review by Menarae

The Mood Naughty line is a lovely set of three butt plugs in graduated sizes. The large is best for intermediate anal users of both sexes, either alone or with a partner. It's not a huge toy, but it's definitely too big for the absolute beginner (if that's you, start with the small. It's bitty.) It's good as a warm-up toy for further anal play. But be careful of leaving it in during vaginal play. The base on the large is a little long and rubs against any other toy I might be using. That's fine for toys, but I can't imagine it would be comfortable for a partner.

The Naughty plugs are made of firm, smooth silicone. It has no noticeable smell unless you put your nose right to it, and then it will have only a faint rubbery smell. It's non-porous, hypo-allergenic, all that good stuff. However, there is very little give to the toy. The neck is fairly flexible, mostly because it's thinner. So if you're looking for something soft, this isn't it. Mine doesn't have a noticeable seam around it, and Doc Johnson is usually really good for trimming their toys properly, but it's worth checking to make sure the seam won't irritate you if you're sensitive.

It's a very basic butt plug shape, though its curves are less extreme than the classic Doc Johnson plug design. If anyone ever stumbles across it and they've seen butt plugs before, they'll know it's a plug. But given that it's still fairly small, it's easy enough to stash.

The three Naughty plugs step up perfectly in size so the absolute beginner can train to take larger toys or partners. The large size offers nice girth without being overwhelming. It's also a good step up to larger plugs. It has a good taper without being too long, and the neck is long enough to sit comfortably. The flare is wide enough to keep the toy in firmly, but not so wide as to be difficult to easily remove. There are no sharp bits or hard edges.

The only problem I've found with the design is the flared base. It's narrow and curved to fit comfortably between the buttocks. It's wider at one end than the other. But it's a little long if you're expecting some vaginal play at the same time. When I've used this plug along with a dildo inserted vaginally, the dildo always rubs against the end of the base.

This is a very nice plug overall. It is firm, but because it's not gigantic I don't think it would hold up very well in a softer silicone. And I prefer firmer toys anyway. Given that plugs are rather basic, it's an easy toy to handle. The flared base is sturdy, since the toy is all one piece. With a good water-based lube, a little practice, and some relaxation, it's easy to insert and remove.

The taper on the plug is excellent. I usually use this one as my warming up toy, either to move on to a larger plug or another toy. It's comfortable. That's the best way I can describe it. Very comfortable.

Silicone is a wonderful material. It's non-porous, so it doesn't hang on to bacteria. The toy doesn't have any nooks or texturing, so it cleans up really easily. A basic toy cleaner and warm water will clean it right up. Or if you need to, you can boil it for five minutes, wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution and rinse well with water, or toss it in the top rack of the dishwasher with no soap or dishes. Those last three options will sterilize the toy, which is essential if you've had any kind of infection or wish to share the toy with others.

Storage is fairly simple. Silicone toys can be stored together (though keep vaginal and anal toys separated to prevent bacteria winding up in the wrong place.) Even though this is the largest plug in the line, it's not too terribly big, so it will fit in any standard toy box or bag, or even inside a sock.

Silicone is also durable and low-maintenance. It's a stable material, so it's not going to break down over time or react with other silicone toys. It reacts only with silicone lubricant (silicone lube will raise what look like little blisters on the toy) and withstands just about everything else except knives and teeth. Keep the knives away and use only water-based lubes, and this butt plug will easily last a lifetime.

I like this packaging and I don't like it. It's a cardboard box with a moulded plastic insert that holds the toy. There are no pictures of naked people, and the graphics are very modern. Actually, the entire Mood line reminds me of those You by Kotex packages. (U by Kotex? I don't know. I don't buy that brand.) They're all black with white and brightly-coloured accents. The back of the box lists features that might apply to any of the toys in the line. If the option's coloured dot has a black dot in the middle, that feature applies to that toy. Handy for when you're shopping around. I wouldn't call it discreet, though. As long as one can read, one can figure out pretty easily that the box contains a sex product. Not to mention you can see the toy in all its glory.

The thing I don't like about the packaging is when you're trying to put the toy back in the package. We sell these at my store, so I take them out fairly often to show them to customers. The plastic insert isn't a clamshell, so the back side of the toy is exposed. It tends to catch on the inside of the box. It's more annoying than anything else. So keep this in mind if you're planning on storing the toy in the package.

I love the Mood Naughty line. Even though I skipped over the small and medium--didn't really need them--I love having the line in the shop. The step ups between the sizes are perfect for people learning to enjoy anal play. The smallest is very non-threatening, and even the large isn't that bad. It's considerably smaller than Doc Johnson's classic medium plug.
