It's the Wheel

The Wartenberg Pinwheel is a classic BDSM tool that's great for sensation play. It's made entirely out of metal, is fairly weighty, and is constructed sturdily for ease of use and control. It's great for people who love teasing and playing with the element of pain. A beautiful, excellent instrument.

Use

The Wartenberg Pinwheel is a medical play-type instrument that is used for leaving light, prickly sensations over bare skin. Its metal spikes are intimidating and fierce, and it can break the skin if used with more pressure. I suggest that it only be used by people who are very experienced in the BDSM field, because knowledge and experience when it comes to such instruments is needed and necessary. For me, the pinwheel is just perfect, and I really enjoy using it.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

The pinwheel is made of some form of metal. It isn't specified what type, but I believe that it is chrome or steel-plated. The handle is very thin, has a space where there are grip indents, and dips down to the holder where the wheel itself is. In total length, the pinwheel is about seven inches in length and the wheel itself has a diameter of 1 1/4".

The wheel is placed on the handle/holder by a screw and it glides easily during use. There are a total of twenty spikes on the wheel which are very close together to provide a constant sensation. Since the material is metal, it will show fingerprints quite easily, so cleaning it or rubbing it with a tissue every so often is necessary.

Performance

Before getting into any heavy play with the Wartenberg Pinwheel, first very lightly roll it against your partner's skin. Get accustomed to it before using new methods or pressure, because being too hasty with the experimentation could produce some unwanted results. Hold the handle firmly and just barely graze the skin, because that is the best way to start out with the pinwheel.

Personally, I love the pinwheel. It's a classic BDSM item that most individuals in the community swear by. I wasn't too interested when I first learned of it, but decided to buy it to try it out. And I love it. It's really fun to use, especially when used in variant degrees of pressure. It's very sturdy too, so it's safe to use without the wheel wobbling all over.

There are a few ways that I've discovered for using the pinwheel. You can use it horizontally to the skin, which makes a very, very light sensation, or use it vertically, which is a bit more pinch-y and bite-y. Using different pressures throughout play is another good way to use the pinwheel and keep your submissive or partner on their toes.

Care and Maintenance

Technically, you can clean the pinwheel in a number of different ways. It should be sanitizable, so wiping it down with bleach or alcohol are good methods. Boiling it should also be sufficient, because the water will get between all of the spaces of the spikes. I personally just run water over it if I need it cleaned, but if I were to be using it with multiple people, sanitation would be necessary.

Since it's so small, storage is easy. You can put it in a drawer, a toy chest, or wherever else you feel like keeping this instrument. I put it in my drawer with all of my other small BDSM items. The little case that I came with is helpful, so I put it in there to keep it from ripping or tearing anything that's in my drawer.

Packaging

The Wartenberg Pinwheel came simply packaged in a plastic casing. One one side it's black, and on the other it's clear so that the pinwheel can be seen. Nothing other than that little case was included, which I thought was substantial for the price. There weren't any instructions (which might have been helpful), but I personally didn't need them.

Personal comments

I must say, this is really fun to use on sensitive parts like the hips, tush, and inner thighs. It's a sure way to make a lover whimper and squirm.
