Soft and Sensual Suede

If you are looking for a small easy to use flogger to introduce some light BDSM play into your bedroom then this is a great toy. It is soft and sensual and pleasant. Because the toy is short it is next to impossible to actually create a painful sensation with this toy. This is great for beginners, but more advanced users looking for something more intense are better off looking at another flogger.

The Sensua suede whip by Lelo should actually be called a flogger. A flogger is an item which a bunch of strands of material (leather, suede, plastic, or other materials) connected to a handle. Floggers can have lots of dimensions changed to alter their sensation. You can change the width of the falls (those are the suede strips in this toy), you can change the length of the falls, the number of falls, the material of the falls, the balance of the handle compared to the falls, and how the ends of the falls are cut. I mention this because floggers different aspects and it can sometimes be a little overwhelming when buying one.

A flogger is used to hit your partner. It is an impact toy. Any part of the body can be flogged. You can flog breasts, genitals, thighs, backs, bums, anywhere! Now floggers are often seen in the BDSM scene, but I do not think they all need to be. Floggers can be painful, but they can also be light and sensual and soft.

This flogger is made out of suede. Suede is probably the best material for a starter flogger. It is the softest and will cause the least amount of pain. Materials such as leather or plastic will have more of a "stinging" sensation and be more painful.

There are other characteristics to this flogger that make it good for a beginner. The falls on this toy are short. The longer the falls the more whipping action you can get and the more pain you can cause. Even if you swing this flogger as hard as you can you barely get a painful sensation. Think of trying to hit somebody with a short piece of string. It is hard to get it to be painful.

The flogger also comes in nice bright colors which can add to a more relaxed play.

Floggers can be used to hit a person by swinging it at them, but they can also be used in other ways. You can drag the flogger across somebody's body parts and it creates a completely painless sensual sensation. You are just running some soft suede over a person's skin.

The handle of this toy could possibly be used for insertion, but I would recommend against it. I would just spend the extra money and buy a dildo that is meant solely for penetration.

Flogging can be a great foreplay activity. When you hit somebody there is going to be increased blood flow to an area. This can cause increased sensitivity (especially with areas such as breasts or genitals) and for some people the increased blood flow and swelling can create a pleasant sensation. I will say that I am a masochist (I enjoy pain) and that this is not the case with everybody. You will have to evaluate this yourself.

A flogger is basically an item used to hit another person with multiple strands of material (suede, leather, plastic, etc.

This flogger has a handle made out of plastic and metal. While the falls are made out of suede. The handle is actually a bit heavy. Suede is leather. It is actually a specific cut of leather. It is the underside. Because it is exposed less you get a softer, but less durable piece of leather. The suede is dyed either black, red or in my case purple. The suede on this flogger is very soft and supple. I think it has a pleasant feeling and texture. I do not know what they do while making this toy, but when you get it out of the box it sheds little strands of suede all over the place though. When you first get it I would bring it over to a garbage can and give it a good shaking. I found that the flogger did stop shedding pretty quickly though. The falls of the flogger are relatively thin. Typically the wider the falls the more "thud" you get and the less pain you get. Even though the strands are thin they do not create much pain or "sting" as is often the case. I believe this is because you are short falls. I counted and I believe there are 38 falls on my flogger.

Here is a photo of the flogger beside a twelve inch ruler. The falls are about 8 inches and the handle is about 4 inches.

Overall I think it is a relatively good design. The flogger is short. This means you cannot get as much impact out of it, so if you are into pain plain that is a minus. But the shortness means it is very easy to hit where you are aiming (this can be more difficult and require practice with a longer flogger). The advantage of being short though is it is easy to use when you are very close to your partner. So if you are on top of your partner and playing with them you could actually use this flogger on them. (note* a normal flogger would be too long for you to actually swing it with yo straddling your partner in bed)

Lelo makes good quality toys, so I do expect this flogger to last a long time. In terms of quality there seems to be nothing wrong with it. It seems sturdy and well made. Suede does not last forever though, just by its softer nature. But that being said it is still a leather and fairly tough. I cannot validate this at all, but I would expect the toy to last at least 5 years with consistent use at least.

There is one major flaw in the design of this toy, and that is the balance between the handle and the falls. A nice flogger will have them balanced making the flogger easier to swing and easier to use for a long period of time. This flogger sacrifices function for form. The handle looks nice and matches the Lelo feather tickler, but it is far to heavy for the falls. It makes it a bit awkward to swing.

The toy does smell like leather, because it is made of leather. The plastic and metal handle do not have any odor. The handle is smooth to the touch

Performance

I think this flogger worked quite well as an introduction of flogging between me and my girlfriend. It is small, cute, and provides nice sensations. I think it is a good toy to introduce a partner into flogging. It is small and easy to use and not very intimidating. Compared to a flogger with 24 inch falls this thing is tiny. So it can be a good starting point and I am happy about that.

I think this is a great foreplay toy. It can be used to hit and explore your partners body. Running it across them for slowly and sensually as the suede glides across their skin, and then quickly striking with a couple of strokes to change the feeling to something just a little sharper. It is fun to use in bed while you are on top of your partner. It is fun to use while your partner is restrained, or blindfolded, or to juxtapose it with another sensation like candle wax, or ice.

I do want another flogger that is more intense. I am into BDSM and a masochist, so I like painful sensations. This flogger can not provide that, so I will be buying another flogger in the future.

The toy's handle could be used for penetration. I do not know if I would recommend it. It would need cleaning, and water and suede do not mix well together.

Care and Maintenance

Suede is a hard material to clean. If you use water or glycerin you will can alter the softness of the suede and "ruin" it. It will not fall apart or anything, but it will lose its texture. It will not longer feel as soft and fuzzy and you do not want that. You also do not want to condition suede. Most leather you want to condition or else it will get hard and crack. This is not the case with suede. Conditioning it will wreck its integrity and its feel.

There are special products to clean suede, and people will tell you home remedies, but to be honest the best thing to do is never clean them if you want the texture to stay the same. If you do get bodily fluids on it, then it is best to just dab it up ass much as possible with a cloth. To get the flogger free from bacteria you can just expose it to the air. Most bacteria and viruses cannot live away from the human body for very long. So if you just expose it to the air (or the sun, but this could cause the leather to fade) then the bacteria will die. After 2 days almost all bacteria should be dead. Now leather is porous so you cannot be completely sure of its safety. I only intend on using this between my partner and myself, so I will not care.

So if you get any bodily fluids on your flogger you will want to dab it with a cloth right away. You do not want a whole bunch of bodily fluids seeping into your flogger.

Floggers are most often stored hanging. This is to prevent the falls from getting tangled or damaged. The handle has no place to hang it from though. I would recommend lying it down on its side and storing it like that. The best way to do this is have to as long as can be. If you bend the falls the leather can change at the bend and get softer and your flogger will lose the strength along the stand. It will sit funny.
    • Easy to store
    • Hard to clean

Packaging

The toy comes packaged in a class box by Lelo. On the front is the flogger on a black backdrop as seen here.

On the backside is another picture of the flogger against a white backdrop. The box has a photo of the actual toy so I would not really call it discreet.

When opened up there is a sturdy black box inside the packaging.

When you open the black box there is the flogger with some tissue paper wrapped around it.

Overall I think the package seems luxurious. There were no instructions inside of the box, but the toy is really easy to use. I mean you just hit someone with it. I would not recommend using the black box for storage. It is nice, but the flogger is best stored without the falls bent.

Personal comments

This is a BDSM toy and I think it works well with other BDSM toys. I think it works well to restrain your partner. Blindfold them. And then tease them. Flog them, bite them, tease their genitals, kiss them and just tease them and get them horny. You could add some nipple clamps and flog them. You could use clamps on their genitals and flog them. You could alternate your flogging with ice or wax (being careful not to get any on the flogger of course). I think you can really do anything with this flogger during foreplay. You could put them in chastity and then flog their genitals, letting them know they are not in control of them.
Follow-up commentary
I still like this toy quite a bit. It is a fun small flogger. I do like BDSM scenes though, and so I have moved to larger floggers. I find them to be more fun and give me more of what I want. But I still like this toy. It is nice for tighter spaces and for smaller body parts and takes less effort to use. So I still like this toy a lot and I think most people will. I just think those of you who want something with more impact will like a bigger flogger more. The toy has held up to use quite well. I did lose one strand off the toy, but nothing major. I think the toy should hold up for another couple of years easily.
