Expected more from eos

This shaving cream was not as impressive as I had expected. It is not as natural as other eos products, and it is not very moisturizing at all. I can get a can of Skintimate shaving cream for half the price of this and it works twice as well, so you're better off going to your drugstore and picking up a can of that.

Pros
Smells nice enough, didn't clog my razor

Price, glycerin, other ingredients, is NOT "ultra moisturizing", could be bad on sensitive skin...

Use

The Environmental Working Group did not have product information listed for the Jasmine/Lavender eos Shave Cream, but they did have the info for the Pomegranate Raspberry. I think this is a bit outdated because it has parabens listed, which the bottle and the company's website claims this does not have.

Also, the ingredient list on the product page here on EdenFantasys is not exact either. According to the eos website for this product (Which matches the list on the bottle), the ingredients are:
Water (Eau), Mineral Oil (Huile Minérale), Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Gluconolactone, Triethanolamine, Cetyl alcohol, Petrolatum, Sodium Benzoate, Dimethicone, Glycol Stearate, [https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/706561/TITANIUM_DIOXIDE/Titanium Dioxide (CI77891)], Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, [https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/700875/BUTYROSPERMUM_PARKII_%28SHEA_BUTTER%29/Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)], Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylene glycol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, [https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/700701/BENZYL_SALICYLATE/Benzyl Salicylate], Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Geraniol, Hydroxycitronellal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Limonene, Linalool, Violet 2 (CI60725), Red 40 (CI16035).

I am not a fan of some of these ingredients. Actually, I am even kind of disappointed reading the information on each of these ingredients, because eos seems to be a company that prides itself on 100% natural products and organic ingredients. None of these ingredients are organic, and the water is the only one that really seems natural to me.

Being that this has glycerin, I would not feel comfortable shaving my genitals with it. This is good for legs, arms, armpits, wherever else you have unwanted hair. It would be fine for shaving a beard, too.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This shave cream has a consistency that is pretty much the same as lotion. It has a very, very light purple hue. It feels like a lotion, exactly like lotion - but it does not really absorb into the skin. It is not greasy or oily. It feels smooth and creamy, it is easy to pump. It stays where you put it, until you have water running on it then it can run off. Because of the consistency it did not clog my razor. It it thick when it comes out of the bottle, but it kind of thins out once you apply it to your skin. Again, I cannot stress enough, this is exactly like lotion...just minus the moisturizing.

Taste / Aroma

The smell is kind of hard to describe. I was expecting it to smell more heavily of lavender. I suppose it is a sort of floral scent, but not overly floral. It does not make think think of flowers right of the bat. It is not overpowering, it's kind of a light smell when you first put it on your skin and smell it straight out of the bottle. Once you shave with it, the smell lingers on your skin. The smell is a lot lighter once you have shaved with it and washed the shaving cream off, but it says on your skin for a few hours. The smell is not that noticeable unless you put your nose up to your skin. It is sort of a clean fresh scent with light floral undertones, that aren't terribly flowery.

This is not edible and not meant to be consumed, but I gave my skin a lick for the sake of this review after I had shaved and dried off. It was almost not noticeable, but it tasted vaguely the same as the smell for about a second then had no taste.

Performance

This claims to be for wet or dry shaving, but I would never use it for dry shaving. I would definitely get razor burn! I assume that you would have to wash it off after dry shaving.

This shave cream does not really lather at all. It is the consistency of a lotion, and then once I was in the shower and rubbed in onto my skin, it felt like a lotion. It felt exactly like if I had taken a bottle of lotion into the shower with me and rubbed it on my skin with water. Although it felt like a lotion, it did not feel like it absorbed into my skin really. I only shaved my arm with it, and I only need one pump. If I shaved an entire leg, it would probably take 3 pumps or so to get a good, smooth shave. Being that this felt like a lotion, I expected my skin to feel very moisturized upon getting out of the shower. I dried off, and my skin did not look or feel moisturized at all. The arm I shaved with the eos shave cream felt barely smoother than the arm that I did not, but my skin did not feel all that smooth. I felt the need to moisturize my skin after using this product to make my skin feel moist, smooth, and silky. Overall, I was not that impressed. Shaving with this was a "meh" experience.

There are some definite allergy concerns with this product. If you click through the links I posted under each of the ingredients you can see the all of the information (including allergy and toxicity info) for each of them. Several of them are in the higher range for potential allergic reactions. Plus, it has glycerin so that kind of makes me want to keep it away from my vagina.

Packaging

The packaging is an easy to use plastic pump bottle. The good thing about this bottle is that it can be recycled and will not rust. It also has some nice grooves in the bottle for your fingers and palm, and it fits my hand pretty well.

The bottle has a suggestion to recycle it, which is nice. It also says that it is paraben-free, not tested on animals, and has no animal-by product.

The ingredients are also listed on the side of the bottle.

    • Does not leak
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Recyclable

Personal comments

I tend to just use Skintimate shaving creams. The one I use does not have glycerin and it appears to have a lot fewer ingredients than the eos shaving creams. It has worked well enough for me, so I will probably just stick with it.

I tried Coochy shave cream, and it was a disaster. I tend to be careful with shaving creams, having sensitive skin and being infection prone. I would not want to irritate my skin on my legs or genital area, or use something with ingredients that could trigger and infection for me. I would much prefer that the eos shaving creams were glycerin-free. I also wish they were as natural and organic as other eos product, then I would be very eager to use them. The ingredients they currently have could be better.
Follow-up commentary
I believe I gave this one more shot and tried it out on my arms, since it felt wasteful just having a full bottle sitting around. My skin did not feel moisturized after, it felt dry and I felt a need to apply a deep moisturizer once I got out of the shower. Ended up giving this product away, maybe the next person who gets it will like it better than I did. I still love my EOS lipbalms, so I really was surprised by how much I disliked this product and how it's not 100% natural. I'll stick to my Skintimate, at least that keeps my skin smooth and silky without feeling dried out.
