Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

EOS's Organic Lip Balm glides on very smoothly and leaves a nice slick layer of product on the lips. Compared to other lip balms that I've tried, I found that this one didn't feel as waxy as other products. It feels slick, but not greasy. After that slickness wears off or is rubbed off, lips feel smooth and not at all sticky, though you can still feel a big of drag from the product.

Taste / Aroma

The Sweet Mint lip balm smells just like that, mint. The smell is light and not overwhelming, and it smells like any other mentholated lip balm I've ever smelled. There really isn't any taste to the product other than your average "lip balm" taste.

Performance

The lip balm was easy to apply and slid nicely across my lips. It was initially rather slick feeling and left a clear shine. My lips felt slightly tingly and cool at first, but that feeling wore off after a few minutes. Compared to my favorite lip balm, Burt's Bees, the tingly/cool feeling from this lip balm was much less intense and not that noticeable. However, compared to Burt's Bees, I was much more aware of this product on my lips because of its slick feeling.

However, that slickness wore off a bit after drinking, but it was still noticeable. After a few hours, some drinking, eating, and cigarette smoking, the slickness was gone but my lips were still soft and by rubbing them together, I could still feel the product on my lips. Usually after all that, I would have needed to reapply a bit more of the Burt's Bees. (Just FYI, I'm not condoning cigarette smoking, but we all have our vices. ~End of personal PSA.)

Packaging

EOS'S Organic Lip Balm stick comes in a plastic tube with a clear wrapper around it. The wrapper lists the ingredients, product name and flavor, amount of product (.14 ounces), organic claims (and the USDA certified organic logo), and even an expiration date. The Sweet Mint flavor comes in a mint green tube. After removing the label, the tube itself only bares the EOS marking along the tube and bottom.

While the length of the tube is just a bit longer than your average lip balm tube, it is substantially larger and wider. The tube is roughly 2 3/4 inches long, with a 3 inch circumference and an almost 1 inch diameter. So yes, the tube is a bit bigger than your average lip balm tube. The lid comes off like a lipstick tube and the bottom twists to push the product up or down. There is also a groove on the top of the lid for, I assume, a finger groove to snap the lid shut.

The entire packaging is very discreet and simple. It can easily be traveled with by tossing it into a purse or slipping it into a pocket, though some might not like its larger size in a pocket.

Experience

When it comes to lip balm, I am a Burt's Bee girl through and through. I've tried numerous other products and I've always been disappointed. I was quite hesitant to try the EOS balm because I wasn't overly fond of their hand lotion, obviously on top of other lip balms just not cutting it for me. But I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this product.

While the tingling and coolness of the Sweet Mint flavor was quite minimal, the overall durability of the balm won me over. I was much more aware of the product on my lips compared to other balms because it felt rather slick, but it wasn't a horrible feeling. It just took some getting used to. After putting this balm through some tests (eating, drinking, smoking), I was surprised at how long it lasted. Usually I would have had to reapply my favorite balm after all that, but this one didn't need it.

I'm still quite surprised that I ended up liking this lip balm. While it won't completely replace my Burt's Bees, it is a nice, long-lasting alternative. Sadly it is much more expensive here and I can only find the egg shaped EOS balms locally, so hopefully this tube will last me awhile.
Follow-up commentary
I've been using this quite a bit lately since my last tube of Burt's Bees ran out. While this doesn't offer as cool and tingly a feeling as the Burt's Bees lip balm, I don't have to reapply it as often. Honestly, the only thing I actually dislike about this lip balm is that the tube is a little too large to fit comfortably in my pocket.
