Good...for the masochistic
If you've felt a slight burning sensation upon insertion, don't even think about choosing Maximus. If you've never felt discomfort using lube, why risk it? If you've never used lube, don't make a bad start with something that could irritate you. Beginner excitement shouldn't be dampened in any way by a risky purchase.

For some, this lube will be fine because they aren't sensitive to the ingredients. Not for me.
This was my first lube, and for a long time I thought all anal play was quite painful, even a finger. The feeling is most apparent when you first rub it in. After a minute, the burning goes away mostly but is renewed as the motion picks up. It really put a damper on butt stuff despite my interest in it.
One day I thought I would try silicone lube (Pjur Back Door), and it was a wonderful surprise to find that burning feeling wasn't there! I found out online that it was probably the 4 types of parabens in Maximus that irritated me. I now use Maximus on penis only as it gives a slight tingly sensation that feels good on the penis, unlike the rectum for people like me.
I imagine everyone has a certain amount of sensitivity to varying degrees, so I recommend to everyone to just avoid anything with "paraben" in the ingredients. There's another ingredient in lubes called DMDM Hydantoin which can also irritate people but isn't as notorious, so pay attention to that too fellow wimps! I would have gladly paid for better lube if I realized it would have improved all of my past experiences and outlook on anal sex.
About the quality of the lube: It is pretty thick as you can see in the videos. I have a rather blunt plug with a bumpy texture, and it's the only toy that this lube isn't slick enough for. It does gum up when it gets dry though. The dispenser gets a glob of hard gel when left alone a long time (think toothpaste without the cap). When it does dry, don't add more lube, spray with a mist bottle or saliva or you'll only make it worse.
I've had my bottle for years, and it had yellowed from the crystal clear bottle it used to be.
I'll be trying Sliquid Organics Gel next after much research. Hope this helps others!

Good to know about the burning. My skin is uber sensetive to begin with.

Thanks so much! It's hard to know what to look for in a lube, so this is helpful.

thanks for the review - and the warning!

I had the same issue with the burning sensation from this stuff. Wish I had read this review prior to buying it so I would've known to stay away.
