It will do in a pinch
While having a readily available silicone lube is attractive, Astroglide X disappoints. I found it too thick, sticky, and cloying to enjoy, and required too much reapplication that I shouldn't have to deal with in a silicone lube.

Pros
Silicone-based, readily available, may be good as an anal lube
Cons
Thick, heats up with friction, sticky, requires too much reapplication, doesn't wash off as well
Boyfriend and I picked this up a little while back while on our search for a silicone lubricant. What we wanted was Wet Platinum, but we were having a hard time finding a bottle at a decent price, so we picked up Astroglide X at Target to see if it was as good. If so, bonus! It is more readily available at our local Target than Wet Platinum (which is technically available at the neighboring Wal-mart, but it is never in stock). It costs a little less, which is always a plus.
During sex, we decided to give it a shot. I grabbed the box and pulled out the silver bottle, which is exactly the same size and shape as your standard Astroglide bottle. I flipped open the top and applied a few drops to myself and a few drops to Boyfriend. He pushed himself back inside and we resumed sexy rumpus.
The first sensation I was struck with is the oily consistency. Instead of slippery and smooth, it felt thick and oily. It felt like the lube was warming up with the thrusts of my partner, almost uncomfortably so. We continued having sex, but it honestly felt like my girl-bits were cloyed with something akin to honey. We had to reapply a few times, about as many times as we would with water-based lube. The constant reapplication was something we did not like about water-based lubes and hoped to remedy with a silicone lube. It had a distinct, chemical smell. It definitely detracted from the experience.
Afterwards, I asked Boyfriend what he thought of it. He shrugged and said he didn't really like it. I asked why and he said he felt it wasn't as slick and it was annoying that we had to keep stopping to add more lube when he felt that it shouldn't have been necessary with a silicone lube. He reiterated that he preferred Wet Platinum and said maybe we should order it if we can't find it locally.
Cleanup was another sticking point. I jumped into the shower and tried to wash the lube off my nether regions with my fingers. With other silicone lubes, a majority of it comes off, maybe leaving a little behind, which isn't bothersome because I find it absorbs after a while. Astroglide X was more difficult. I felt like it was really layered on and I just couldn't manage to wash it all away. I do not used soap on my vulva because of the risk of yeast infection, but I really wished I could. After exiting the shower, I still have a layer of it all over the inside of my girl-bits, and it was vaguely irritating.
So Astroglide X was relegated to the toybox for back-up in case we ran out of our preferred lube. We haven't pulled it out much and sooner reach for the water-based lube than we do the Astrolide X. Simply put, I was disappointed.
