Astroglide X, as well as the family of Astroglide lubrication products, are designed for use, by both sexes, during a variety of sexual encounters to reduce the amount of friction and in general make sexual activity a more pleasurable experience, particularly those of us with a reduced amount of natural moisture. This becomes very important for post menopausal women. Astroglide X makes no claims to be allergy free but it does claim to be non-irritating. I recommend that if you or your partner tend to have skin allergies or sensativities that you rub some of the product on the underside of your forearm and wait at least several hours to check for a local reaction. Do this as soon as you receive the Astroglide X so that when you are ready to play you are good to go! It is fragrance free with a very light nondescriptive taste so if you need lubrication for oral sex this is a good choice. We did not test it with anal play because that is not on our sex menu, but my husband and I both feel it would work for the back door. It is also latex safe, making it an ideal choice when using condoms or latex based toys. If you want a lubrication as a mood enhancer, I find some sweet and sexy talk does much more than any lubrication I have found thus far. For me, erotic touches, a special glance and an experienced hand are the best mood enhancements available (and they're free to boot!!!).

Astroglide X is slightly viscous, smooth and silky. It comes out of the small plastic bottle via a flip top cap, which can quickly be opened with one hand. It did not clog the opening and with minimal pressure it is easy to control the amount that comes out. If you are familiar with the other Astroglide products, Astroglide X is slightly thicker, but still fairly thin. I compared Astroglide X to Astroglide Natural and if I had not done a side by side inspection, I would not have realized this. We did not notice anything greasy about it, which in the case of silicone lubes, is often the case. It has a nice feel when you place a drop on a fingertip and rub it. It is clear and colorless and should be stored at room temperature.

All Astroglide lubes, including Astroglide X, are clear and colorless. Astroglide X has no smell and only a light taste which is nondescript and does not interfere with oral pleasure. I doubt that I need to mention this, but I would not recommend taking a gulp of it; the company surely knows how most people will be using Astroglide X, so I am assuming it is non toxic, but if you have any concerns, I would contact the company, either by phone using the 800 number or their web site, both of which are provided on the packaging.

This product is designed to be a long lasting, latex safe, personal lubricant. In addition, the company decribes it as being silky smooth, non-irritating and fragrance/flavor free. When I purchase a product the first question I ask myself is, "...does this item do what the company claims...". When I can answer an uncontested, "...yes...", I feel that I can trust the company producing the item. Astroglide X passed the test. Both my husband and I have very little natural genital moisture so it is important to us to use a comfortable and long lasting lubricant. While we have liked Astroglide Natural, we prefer Astroglide X. It is a silicone lubricant. You don't need to hesitate to use it with toys made of latex. It has a slightly viscous feel, making it not too thin and not too thick. It does not gum up like many water based lubes. For fans of Astroglide (purple cap) Astroglide X is slightly thicker. It is easily absorbed into the skin while still maintaining adequate lubrication--it does not dry out during use. It is VERY slippery, a quality we appreciate in a lube--at the point of vaginal penetration neither of us felt any resistance, a common occurance that we have experienced with other lubes. The "slipperyness" lasted from start to completion. It did not gum up and after our sexual encounter, we both found it very easy to clean up with a wet washcloth and a little soap. We felt clean and comfortable--if this had been a mid-day nasty, quickie, we would have been fresh and ready to return to work without having to worry that our undies were soiled or have the feeling of, "...can they tell...we just had sex...?". The label instructs the user to vary the amount of Astroglide X to "...acheive desired lubrication". We used our usual amount which is to massage a small amount on my husband's erect penis and put some around the opening to my vagina plus an extra squeeze that drips into my vagina. After about 10 minutes of foreplay, I gave my husband a brief handjob before intercourse and the lubrication made it easy for my hands to glide around his penis comfortably, suggesting that this is a great lube for masturbation sessions. The label lists only 2 ingredients (cyclomethicone and cyclopentasiloxone). From that information it seems that this product is glycerin free. My gynocologist told me that glycerine free lubricants generally last longer than water based lubes.

As all of the Astroglide lubricants we have used, Astroglide X comes in a small 2 ounce plastic bottle with an easy to use, non drip plastic flip cap. The bottle is in a small cardboard box. There are no instructions, other than to apply where needed, but I think it is reasonable to assume that consumers purchasing this product have a good idea how and when to use it. I did like that the bottle's label lists their web site and an 800 number for any questions, problems or general concerns. Very nice of them.

Any of the Astroglide family of lubricants are ideal for travel and can be confidently placed in your carry on, making it available anytime needed. I would not be embarrassed (and I am quite shy about these things) if TSA did a random bag search on me. It does not look like a sex tool, and TSA agents are usually too busy to read the packaging. They are just concerned about the size of the liquid package, and Astroglide X meets their specifications for liquids, which I believe is 3 ounces in a plastic container and placed in a sealed in a plastic bag. I like being able to reach for it when I arrive at my destination in case the mood hits!!

As mentioned earlier in this review, neither my husband or I have much natural lubrication. When a non-water based lube is desired, Astroglide X ticks all our boxes. Long lasting (check); easy to handle and store (check); no offensive smell or taste (check), nonirritating (check) and all purpose (check).

We are both long time fans of Astroglide and Astroglide X is clearly our favorite go to lube for all occasions.
