Hey! Hey! Hey! Listen! Hey!

It's inevitable that if you ask for a suggestion for a vibrator, someone's going to pipe up with OH MIMIMIMIMIMIMIIIIIII!!! This will either make it seem like the annoying little sister of vibrators, or the almighty queen of vibrators. But here's the secret. Mimi isn't the strongest, best rechargeable vibrator ever. It's not weak. It's not bad. But it's not that exciting either. If you think you'll love the broad stimulation, great! But don't go buying Mimi expecting something earth-shattering.

Pros

Use

Mimi is designed to be a clitoral vibrator; certainly you couldn't use it internally for either vaginal or anal use if you tried. Because Mimi has fairly strong vibrations spread out over a flat surface, you could easily use it for other body massage purposes, and it's certainly a toy I can see recommending to couples wanting to toss a vibrator into the mix. It's relatively small, easy to hang onto, and fun for stimulating broad areas, not just clits. I could see it working great for handjobs, or just slipping between two bodies as something extra.

Of course as a reasonably powerful clitoral vibrator, for those who don't like pinpoint vibrations Mimi is one of the top recommended toys for masturbation. While I disagree, there are a lot of women out there who'd reach for Mimi first. But for me, it had the fatal flaw of "I really just can't get off with this." Strong, sure, but more a teaser to a main event.

Material / Texture

Mimi has an absolutely wonderful soft coating; this is without a doubt one of the places where it shines. Just holding Mimi, you know you're holding an expensive luxury toy. While it's entirely texture-free, and I really do like texture, I can honestly say Mimi feels expensive. No smells, nothing weird, just a nice glossy, silk-like silicone coating.

It makes for a very non-threatening toy, right on par with other expensive brands like Lelo, Jopen, and Leaf.

Design / Shape / Size

I really wish Mimi came to a bit more of a sharp point at the end. While it's nice to have the diffuse vibrations, it's also very frustrating when I know I just have to hit that EXACT POINT and well, it's not doing it for me. Mimi is designed for those who like broad, spread out, but powerful vibrations. The size is perfect to fit into a hand and on a glance it could pass as a cell phone or computer accessory, if you have the black Mimi.

At any rate, it's a generic black shape that's a little smaller than a standard computer mouse, so if discretion is necessary, Mimi might very well be your best bet.

It does not lock for travel, but that's okay, because if I can't push the buttons nothing in your bag can either.

I'd like to call it ergonomic, but I really can't in good faith after remembering the struggles I had just to push the buttons down. I'm sure that's going to cause Masturbatory Tunnel Syndrome or something.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls are where Mimi falls short (and this is the improved version!). In order to change the speed, you push one of the three buttons. One of the buttons is to make it get faster, one makes it get slower, and the other turns on the vibration modes.

This is all good and well until you realize that in order to actually push the button, you've got to bring Mimi up to your face and attempt to jam the ever loving shit out of that button in order to advance or add one of the vibration modes. While you can push both the up and down button to turn Mimi off immediately, the likelihood of you being able to actually do this in due haste if someone comes into the room is almost impossible. And don't even think of being able to push those buttons if lube is involved.

As for the noisy factor, Mimi isn't the quietest toy out there, but between a fan and a blanket it was quiet enough. I did not try Mimi underwater because I expect that actually being able to push the buttons would be impossible once it's wet.

It does have a wonderful variety of patterns which can be used at any speed... if you can actually access them. By pushing the middle button you can cycle through the patterns, and then go up and down in vibration level.

Care and Maintenance

Mimi did not come with a storage pouch! I was genuinely surprised with the price range. The box it comes in is plenty nice to use for storage, but I debox my toys so they take up less space. Mimi got chucked into one of my Wevibe bags. So far I've had no trouble with material compatibility, though I still recommend a bag if you're not going to use the original box for storage.

It's probably literally impossible for anything in a drawer to push the buttons, but I would still consider the fact that Mimi is a rechargeable toy without a storage lock function before just tossing it in a box with a ton of other toys, and if you're doing that, definitely look into bags because not all silicones play together nicely.

With that in mind, Mimi should probably be used with water-based lubes only, and any hybrids or silicones should be patch tested to avoid ruining the nice silky coat. Because Mimi is waterproof, clean-up is as simple as soap and water.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The only thing that stood out to me about Mimi's packaging was that it did not come with a storage pouch. Otherwise it came in very nice packaging: a black box with the silver Je Joue logo. Slide that off and there's a Mimi-shaped clamshell and a little door where the instructions and charging cords can be kept.

The included instructions have all the information you could need in multiple languages and if you were giving a toy as a gift, this is without a doubt as classy as you're going to get. Certainly it would work well for storage: it's as downsized as classy can get. Still, the logo outs it to anyone in the know about sex toy brands, which is why I will not be using it for storage purposes.

For anyone not in the know, it could pass as a perfume box or perhaps part of a board game. It looks to be about the right size to hold a couple of decks of cards, for example. If packaging sways your opinion, you don't get much more classy yet downsized than this.
    • Good for storage

    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

I do not think the heavens opened and rays of sun and angelsong accompanied the release of Mimi. It's a pretty generic, forgettable luxe toy that simply happens to be reasonably powerful. Because of the fact that it cannot be used for both pinpoint and broad stimulation it loses a mark in my mind: my Life can be used for both and they are on par on the power level.

While I can see why it's loved, it left a pretty resonating 'meh' in my mind.

Still, I think Je Joue is on the right track with their designs. I'd look at other designs from the company in the future now; the buttons aren't enough to dissuade me entirely. And there have been times I've reached for Mimi just because I could. Still, I think I would've needed just a tiny bit more power, or just a little bit better of button designs to give it a better rating. I want to feel confident knowing I can use it in the shower and be able to successfully push the buttons. I'd have preferred a travel lock. And I really prefer when toys come with their own storage bags! All those things add up to making Mimi just a little bit lower in my mind than the other luxe brands, where the packaging really does matter, and the power definitely does.

But if strength is what matters, yep: Mimi is more powerful than a Lelo clit vibrator, so go get'm, tiger.
