Mio - cock ring by Je Joue - review by mistressg

Mio didn't blow me away

This toy has a lot going for it, but I do see room for some improvements. If you are looking for a rechargeable, silicone ring, you may be interested in this. There are some things that may make this less appealing to some (the price, being one of them), so you may want to decide if this would be perfect for you before jumping into buying such a pricey ring. Because of the cost, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this to beginners.
Silicone, rechargeable, waterproof, powerful, variety of settings,
Expensive, slides around in use, charge doesn't hold for long, buttons are small

extremely useful review

This toy is meant for couples, but can be used solo over any dildos or other toys you may want to use with it. If you have a penis, you could also wear this while masturbating, if you wanted to. It is intended to provided clitoral stimulation during penetration. Cock rings are also used as an erection enhancer, for some men. It restricts the blood, which can apparently make erections last longer and stay harder. This is great for anyone, especially couples, but beginners may be put off by the price tag. If you have never tried any kind of cock ring, I would say get something cheap and see how you like it before jumping in and getting something that is $99.

As an advanced user, I love that this is silicone. The fact that it is silicone, waterproof, and rechargeable is certain to make any advanced user interested. Jelly, TPR, and TPE can degrade, and wear down and just not be all that wonderful after a while. Also, the bullets that come with these rings are so often weak! This has none of those downfalls, the vibrations are strong, and it has many settings and vibration patterns.

If you are sick of having to by watch batteries for bullets, or bored of all of these other rings on the market, you might want to give this one a shot.

Material / Texture

This is made from totally non-porous, body-safe silicone. It has a pretty soft velvety texture, not super sticky like some silicone can be. However, it will still pick up a bit of lint, as silicone tends to. This toy has no odor. Because it is silicone, only use water-based lubricants (if any) when using this toy. DO NOT use silicone lubricants when using this toy.

It is smooth all over, not texture. It has a velvety, silicone feel. It's not really sticky, like some silicone can be, but the material can pick up lint.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all
    • Stretchy

Shape / Design / Size / Fit

I put this over my Tantus Silk Medium, and it was somewhat loose on that. That toy has a circumference of 4", a diameter of 1 1/4". If you intend to use this with a toy or partner that is around that size or smaller, consider that this may slip around. If you are working with something larger than that, it will probably be a snug but comfortable fit. This has a lot of room to stretch, so it will fit over thicker toys/penises pretty well. For my partner, it fit over his shaft pretty well, though I'm not sure it would fit around the testicles as well, though we never use rings that way anyhow. I think this would fit the "average" person pretty well. It is easy to put on and take off, and it doesn't really seem to on snag hair or skin at all.

There is a seam that runs along the side of the ring, but I don't have any issue with it since it doesn't get in the way at all.

The top of the ring, where it is largest (where the motor is, and where the buttons are located) might seem a bit bulky to some, at just over an inch in height. The entire ring is almost 3 inches in height, and almost 2 inches wide. Also, it's pretty thick, about an inch thick. It's not heavy, even though it may look a little bit bulkier than some other rings. It's lightweight.
    • Will fit most men
    • Only fits on penis shaft

Functions / Performance / Controls

My partner noticed when I showed it to him, that when it is charging the little red light on it that blinks is in the shape of a heart. I've gathered that this light stops blinking once it is charged. There is also a little light on the charger itself, which glows bright blue when plugged in.

The Mio has to charge for 2 hours and it claims to provide two hours of play in turn. I have other rechargeable toys, and it seems the rest I have hold a charge for a much longer time than this one does. I'm not exactly sure how long this toy hold a charge, but I think it is a week or less. For me, that one big downfall. I like my toys ready to use, in case I find that there is something I want to use spur of the moment - having to plan ahead with a toy can take some of the fun out of it. If I charge this overnight, or for an afternoon, I would expect that it would be good to go if I decide, even 2 weeks later, that I want to use it. This is kind of like going to use a toy and finding that the batteries are dead...only more inconvenient, because at least in that case, if you have batteries on hand, you're all set. With this, you'd have to let it charge for AT LEAST an hour to play with it for a little while.

I love that this is rechargeable, it saves money on batteries in the long run. Though, when charging, the toy makes this low, high-pitched noise. Unless you are right next to it, you probably wouldn't notice it, but both my partner and I noticed. It does that the entire time it is charging. The charger is magnetic, it clings to the buttons on the ring. There is no way for it to be used the wrong way, the ring will only attract the charger if it is lined up with the buttons a certain way.

As for the buttons, they are a bit small. They could be difficult to push, especially if the ring gets slippery, or if you have larger fingers. The buttons are metal (as I said, they are magnetic), which probably makes them easier to press than if they were silicone, like the rest of the ring. The ring has 3 buttons: -, ~ , and +. To turn on, hold the + button. To turn off, hold the - button. I has seven vibration patterns, and 5 vibration strength settings. The - and + buttons each control the strength of the vibrations respectively. The center button, with the ~ symbol, controls the vibration patterns. To go through the patterns, you push that button. If you turn it off and turn it back on, it will start up on a low vibration on the first vibration pattern. The first pattern is a steady vibration (I prefer this one), the next is sort of a throbbing vibration, the next is a rollercoaster pattern, then there are 4 different pulsing patterns.

The vibrations could be stronger, but they are not weak. I was sad when I used this with my partner, when it started sliding around. Having to readjust where a ring is, so you can get decent stimulation, can kind of get annoying. It's not an issue I've had with all rings, but I do have it with this one.
    • Easy to use
    • Rechargeable
    • Variety of settings

Care and Maintenance

If you wanted to keep the packaging to store the ring and charger, you could. However, that is a bit bulky for me, so I just keep it in my Devine Playchest in one of the dividers, with its charger. It's not all that big, so it's pretty easy to store. Though, it is silicone, and that can be tricky if you have certain toys of certain materials stored with it, so you might want to keep it in some sort of pouch.

As for cleaning, it is silicone and waterproof, which makes things easy. Soap and water, toy cleaner, or a bleach solution could be used. I wouldn't boil this or put it in the dishwasher, since it has a motor. Also, with this toy you'll want to be sure to clean in the seam around where the buttons are located. It is a small, tight space that things could get into, so you'll want to take special care to be sure to clean that area.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

The packaging, as you can see, is not discreet. The purple box that is comes in has "share longer, stronger simultaneous orgasms" on the side of it. Inside of the purple box, it is sealed in plastic, in a black case. That box contains the ring, charger, and a little leaflet about the Mio. The black box seems to be a decent storage case, with a divider for the charger, and an indentation to keep the ring in. However, the box is a bit large and bulky for me to personally keep around. The black box looks pretty discreet, though it does have "Je Joue" on the top of it. Anyone who knows French might be interested in that, since that translates to "I play".
    • Good for storage
    • Not discreet

I tend to enjoy using vibrating rings with my partner, so I figured this would be a worthwhile investment. I like that this has a steady vibration setting, typically that is the only one I will really ever use on a toy. The vibrations seem pretty strong, but when I used this with my partner they seemed to lessen. I wish the vibrations were a bit stronger. Between the way the vibrations traveled, and the fact the the ring moved around so that it made it a bit difficult to get direct clitoral stimulation the entire time, the vibrations didn't seem as strong as I would have liked. Granted, they are not bad, but it would be nice if there was maybe one more level of strength. Also, the ring seemed to go from about a 2 to a 3 on the noise scale when I used it with my partner. I'm not sure why that is, but you may want to have some background noise if you have roommates nearby. I'm almost tempted to give this a 3 for vrooms, but I'm giving it a 4. A low 4. The vibrations were definitely not "earth-shaking" for me when I used it with him, which is when it would count most for me. I can't decide if I would call the vibrations buzzy, or rumbly. It's somehow somewhere between the two. After everything I read about this saying the same thing, which was that it will turn your partners penis into a vibrator, I'm not blown away by it. It didn't fully deliver that for me, but maybe it would be better in different positions or something.

This toy has a lot going for it, but I do see room for some improvements. I'm giving it 4 stars, I'd give it 3.5 if I could.
Follow-up commentary
I still like this, but I wish that it wouldn't discharge when sitting in the toy box. Because of that, I have to plan ahead if I want to use it, and recharge it ahead of time, otherwise it won't turn on at all. Also, that little, high-pitched mechanical whirring noise that it makes when charging is kind of annoying. But, it's decent for what it is: a rechargeable silicone ring.
