Satin sugar hair and body powder for darker hues - powder discontinued by Cake Beauty - review by oldman

This small container of a medium brown colored powder is made to clean your hair and body without using water. You sprinkle some of the powder in your hair (please use the lighter version according to your hair shade), let it sit for a few minutes and then brush it through and along with the powder that is removed so is the dirt. Products like this have long been used by sick patients in hospitals with little effect and for us, this product was no different.

I don't have that thick head of curly, dark hair I once did, but (thankfully) the Mrs. still does. Now her hair is dry and (by her own sad admission) lacks the shine and luster of yesteryears. Along with the 2 of us, we enlisted the assistance of our 2 adult daughters, each with lovely tresses. I asked them not to wash their hair for 4 days.

This type of product is good for bed-ridden people, elderly, travelers and those who want to freshen up when a shower and shampoo is just not available or practicle (like a date after work--or a night unexpectedly not spent at home and you have to be at work early the next day--OOPS--). We all need a quick fix for our hair now and then.

This is a very finely textured medium brown powder. It has a nice smooth feel to it--there is no moisture in the substance and you do not add any liquid to use the product. It does mix with the natural oils on your hair and body. You would logically think that this would cause the product to clump and become sticky but that is not the case. It remains in a powder form and easily brushes from your hair or wipes off your skin with a dry cloth.

This has a nice, fresh odor to it--not like baby powder, not like body powder and certainly not like soap or shampoo. It is a strong fragrance but very pleasant. I'm not sure how to describe it. I don't sense flowers or spices--I just like it and find it not overpowering. None of us wanted to taste it because of some of the ingredients (silica) but I doubt it would be toxic and I am sure it would taste like crap-o-la!

The powder did a nice job of freshening up all of our hair. It returned shine to dull, dirty hair on the girls but never felt "squeaky clean" like the feeling you experience after a water/shampoo cleansing. It did help the hair to "pouf" up like it does after you wash and blow dry but if it was actually clean (or cleaner) I can not say. It looked better and styled well for all of us.

Using it on your skin is another bag all together. We intentionally got our hands and arms dirty by dipping them in a solution of food coloring mixed in water (so it wasn't too strong). The powder, even with vigorous scrubbing, did nothing to remove the colors from our skin. Also, residual powder remained even after careful wiping with clean cloths. Also, on our pale skin the darker powder was noticeable.

If you use this powder while dressed, cover any exposed clothing because the powder will get on your clothes and you will have a hard time shaking it loose. Our skin did feel softer but I doubt it was any cleaner. You will smell fresh as a daisy, so that alone is worth something, particularly if you have a last minute meeting and no time to get ready. If you are at the gym and don't have time to shower, try this product to mask any "funk" left behind from your vigorous work out!!

None of us had any scalp or body reactions to the ingredients, but if you are known to have sensativities please test this on a small area before using it all over your body. Please!

This fine powder is packaged in a tubular container with a shaker top. It has not clogged and is easy to regulate the amount that comes out--if you want alot, sprinkle harder and longer and if you want just a tad, sprinkle shorter and lighter. The container has brief instructions, is small and easily fits in your hand. This is not a "sex" product, so it is perfectly discreet for travel and since it is not a liquid, you should not have any problems getting through the security check.
