Lightly Scented and Wonderful to Use

Venus body butter is an excellent choice for moisturizing skin. It also works well for massaging, as it does not absorb as quickly as many lotions. The pomegranate scent is light and fruity. I think this jar would make a nice gift with some other Venus products, since they look like they could have come from Bath and Body works. This does contain methyl paraben and some ingredients that may be irritating to sensitive or acne-prone skin, however I had no issues with it.

Use

The Venus body butter is basically just a very thick, moisturizing lotion. It rubs in very easily and absorbs a bit slower than typical body lotions, making it an excellent choice for a body massage. I also love it just to moisturize my body after a shower. To me body butters always feel like they are far more moisturizing to skin and leave it much softer. I will list the ingredients later in my review, but the only ingredient that may not work for some users is methyl paraben. This does not contain glycerin. This product is made in the USA and is not tested on animals.

I feel this body butter, along with some other Venus products, would make an excellent gift to pamper just about anyone. There's such a wide range of scents available, too. I received the Pomegranate scent, which is very fruity with a hint of a floral scent to it. I love it. I've also tried the Milk scent in some other products and it reminds me of milk and honey scented soaps.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Body butter has a much thicker consistency than body lotion. This stuff can be scooped out with fingers and will not run off of fingers or drip all over the place. Its consistency is similar to that of Cool Whip. It sticks together well, yet does not feel very heavy at all. It's very easy to scoop the exact amount you want out of the jar.

Once you begin rubbing this in, your skin will feel a tiny bit greasy for a bit, since it doesn't absorb very quickly. It will leave skin looking very shiny. There isn't any glitter in this. The lotion is a pale baby pink but it does not tint skin at all.

Once applied, skin will feel velvety soft.

Taste / Aroma

I received the Pomegranate scent, which is very light and fruity. There is a slight hint of a floral scent to it as well. The scent is not overpowering. I can't really smell it if it's more than 3 feet away. I think the scent is very pleasant and relaxing. It doesn't really remind me of other pomegranate scented body products I've tried.

When I gave this a taste test, it has a light chemical taste to it. It's not very pleasant, but does go away quickly.

Performance

As I said before, this body butter can be used just to moisturize skin or as part of a body massage. I personally would prefer this for a body massage, as it's not as heavy feeling on skin as oils can be. I've just been using it to moisturize my super dry hands. They look and feel much better.

My skin was left feeling moisturized for a few hours. At first it does feel greasy because it's still sitting on my skin, but after a while my skin finishes absorbing it and I'm just left with softer skin. If you don't like the greasy feeling, gently washing hands with some hand soap will remove left over body butter without taking too much out of your skin. Skin will still feel a little soft, but the scent will disappear.

I like this body butter. It's so lightly scented compared to some lotions. After using the Venus body scrub, I like to apply this to keep my skin feeling soft and to keep it from drying out again.

There's honestly nothing I dislike about this stuff. The ingredients include some natural oils, so I can accept the fact that it feels a bit greasy.

Packaging

This comes in a large, flat plastic jar. The jar is just a bit larger than the palm of my hand and measures 3 1/2 inches across the lid and 2 1/2 inches tall. Both the jar and lid are plastic, with the lid being a flat black and the jar being clear. Even with slightly greasy hands, it's easy to grasp the lid and turn it. It contains 8 ounces of body butter, which is comparable to a medium-sized lotion bottle. Most of my medium-sized lotions range from having 6 to 9 ounces of lotion. There is a safety seal underneath the lid, which can be easily removed.

The jar is decorated with a pink wave design. The front has a woman's body outline that is filled in with a picture of pomegranate seeds. The back lists the ingredients. Off to the side of the ingredients list, the label states that this is a product of the USA and not tested on animals.

Ingredients:

Aqua, shea butter, almond oil, tea octyl palmitate, ceteareth 20, ceteraryl alcohol, propylene glycol, steareth 30, ceteth 10, vitamin e, carbomer, methyl paraben, diazolidinyl urea, fragrance.

May contain:

fd&c yellow 3, fd&c blue 1, and fd&c red 33.

While this says it's a natural Dead Sea product, unlike the other Venus products I've tried, it does not list Dead Sea salts in the ingredients. Some of the ingredients, like shea butter, almond oil, and vitamin e, are all common in beauty products. Tea octyl palmitate is derived from palm oil. It can cause irritation or acne breakouts, so you may want to avoid using this on sensitive or acne-prone skin. Some users may be sensitive to methyl paraben. The rest of the ingredients are there simply to help the butter keep its consistency or to keep the butter bacteria free.

I personally can have very sensitive skin, especially when it comes to heavily fragranced products or detergents and chemicals. I also have been going through a lot of stress lately and breaking out a bit on my face and back, so I avoided using this in those areas. I have used it on my arms and legs and have had no problems.

I think the packaging is great for a body butter. It doesn't say anywhere that this came from a sex toy store. It looks like it could have come from a store like Bath and Body Works. I don't think the jar is very suitable for travel. It's hard plastic, rather than a more flexible plastic. If this is dropped, the jar will probably break and send body butter flying everywhere.

Personal comments

As I said, I love using this to moisturize my body. The almond oil and shea butter leave me feeling silky soft and the light fragrance is perfect. I do not mind avoiding using this on my face and back, as I'm used to avoiding those areas with lotions or oils. I don't like using this very much on my feet, because the greasy feeling between my toes is a bit of a bother to me. If I use it on my feet, it's when I'm going to bed.
Follow-up commentary
I still like this body butter, but do find I prefer the Simply Sensual body butter over this one; just because this has a slightly greasy feel to it and the Simply Sensual body butter does not. Sometimes that added greasiness makes working after application a bit difficult or annoying, especially if I have to handle paper.
