Smooth and Clean

If you normally use shave gel, try this out. It might work for you. But if you can go the old school way with just a bar of soap or nothing but water, then don't purchase this. The scent is just heavenly, but I personally wish it was stronger.

Use

Dona shave gel is a System Jo product and is available in many scents: Acai, Blue lotus, Mangosteen, Camu camu, Pomegranate, and Goji berry. I ordered pomegranate. This is my first try with any Dona products and the first time wasn't that great, but I sucked it up and tried again. This shave gel can be used on any part of the body. After my second use, I applied some lotion and baby powder, and didn't have a problem with shave bumps or rashes, and I always use a sharp razor.

Purified Water- mechanically filtered or processed to be cleaned for consumption. Source- Wikipedia

Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate- Foaming product used as primary anionic surfactant found in bath/shower produces and hair care. Source- https://www.kaochemicals-eu.com

Sodium Cocoamphoacetate- Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Sodium Cocoamphopropionate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate and Disodium Cocoamphodipropionate cleans the skin and hair by helping water to mix with oil and dirt so that these substances can be rinsed away. They also increase foaming capacity or stabilize foams. These ingredients enhance the appearance and feel of hair, by increasing hair body, suppleness, or sheen, or by improving the texture of hair that has been damaged physically or by chemical treatment. Made from fatty acids from coconut oil, also called coconut acid. Source- cosmeticsinfo.org

Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine- It has uses as a foam booster, viscosity builder, and an antistatic agent (which is great if you use it in your hair to tone down fly aways). Patch tests with human subjects to cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine had a positive allergic reaction. Source- Wikipedia

Zea Mays(corn) Propanediol- Propanediol helps form the base for our deodorants. Sodium stearate is the ingredient that causes these products to “gel” or take on a form that is more viscous or solid. Once suspended in a gel, the other ingredients in these products can be properly applied in the manner consumers expect. Risk-Propanediol is considered a safe and appropriate ingredient not just for cosmetic products, but also for ingested products like food. This ingredient has approval from EcoCert™ (an international recognized natural and organic seal) and the Natural Product Association (US based natural personal care certification). Glycerin- Medical and pharmaceutical and personal care preparations, mainly as a means of improving smoothness, providing lubrication and as a humectant. It is found in allergen immunotherapies, cough syrups, elixirs and expectorants, toothpaste, mouthwashes, skin care products, shaving cream, hair care products, soaps and water-based personal lubricants. Cocamidoproply Betaine- Is used as a foam booster in shampoos.[2] It is a medium strength surfactant also used in bath products like hand soaps. It is also in cosmetics, as an emulsifying agent and thickener, and to reduce irritation purely ionic surfactants would cause. It also serves as an antistatic agent in hair conditioners. Most often does not irritate skin or mucous membranes(another great chemical for fly aways) Source- Wikipedia

Polyquaternium 007- Antistatic, film-forming. Source- specialchem4cosmetics.com

Polysorbate 20- is used as a wetting agent in flavored mouth drops such as Ice Drops, helping to provide the spreading feeling of the other ingredients like SD alcohol and mint flavor. The World Health Organization has suggested acceptable daily intake limits of 0-25 mg of polyoxyethylene sorbitan esters per kg body weight. Source- Wikipedia

Saccharide Isomerate- Good water-binding agent and emollient for skin. Also a carb. Source- paulaschoice.com

Disodium EDTA- Is frequently found in ingredients lists of personal care products, manufactured foods and beverages, cleaning supplies, cosmetics, and skin care products. Disodium EDTA also has extensive industrial, medical and engineering applications, and is one of the most important and widely used chemical compounds in modern human society. Source- ehow.com

Benzyl Alcohol- Benzyl alcohol is a colorless liquid with a mild pleasant aromatic odor. It is a useful solvent due to its polarity, low toxicity, and low vapor pressure. Benzyl alcohol is partially soluble in water. Source- Wikipedia

Methylchloroisothiazolinone- Is a preservative with antibacterial and antifungal effects within the group of isothiazolinones. It is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and fungi.
Methylchloroisothiazolinone is found in many water-based personal care products and cosmetics. Methylchloroisothiazolinone was first used in cosmetics in the 1970s. It is also used in glue production, detergents, paints, fuels, and other industrial processes. Methylchloroisothiazolinone is known by the registered trade name Kathon CG when used in combination with methylisothiazolinone. Source- Wikipedia

Methylisothiazone- used as highly effective biocidal agents against fungal and bacterial species. They are widely used as a preservative in cosmetic industry, and as a pesticide, e.g. in paints and water tanks. Highly corrosive and causes burns if use undiluted. Common usage rates in this preservative are .01%. The general public would not come into contact with undiluted MIT. Causes irritation of skin by contact if undiluted, and it is highly destructive of mucous membranes if applied undiluted.
It is lethal in low doses if absorbed via oral ingestion, inhalation or dermal contact (see references). Known allergen in concentrations as low as 20 ppm, with prevalence in population between 3% and 8%.[1] Suggested usage rate is .01% for lotions and usage rates. Source- Wikipedia

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture is like is a 10 hair gel. It's rather thick, for those who haven't used that hair gel.
-upon application

-30 seconds after application

Adding water to this product makes it turn white like any other shave gel, but its consistency and thickness isn't anything like other shave gels; it's thinner.

-upon adding water to application

-45 seconds after application

Compared to regular shaving cream:

-upon application

-45 seconds after application

Applying it to the skin before water, it does have a smooth, silky texture. It gets stringy discharge like during ovulation and is rather sticky. You have to squeeze the bottle in order to get the product out. The push tab to open the bottle can break if you don't pay attention to which side you open. I broke mine, but was able to fix it.

Taste / Aroma

I will not taste this product, nor should anyone due to some ingredients that could be harmful if ingested. On opening the box that this arrived in, I could not smell anything until I took the inner peel tab off. Then, I got hit with a middle strong, great pomegranate scent; nothing too strong, and it is very pleasant. During use, you can hardly tell that you are using anything that's scented. I do wish it was a little more powerful in the scent department.

Performance

I have used this shave gel 3 times on my legs, pubes, underarms, and arms. My husband has used it twice on his face and we still have more than half a bottle left, so I would say this gel is going to last quite a while. Clean up is okay if you shaved, because you would have shaved it off, but when applying it for the review I had to wash it for about 3 minutes to get everything off. I really love the way this shave gel smells and I am thinking about purchasing more from the dona line in pomegranate scent.

Experience

I am not happy with this product in the performance aspect. I normally can shave twice a week without any shave gel and not have to worry about applying lotion afterwards, but with this shave gel I must or I get bad razor burn and shave bumps. It also makes me really itchy after shaving, but the scent is heavenly.
