Fun for your clitoris

Beginners should find the LAYAspot easy to use, and not intimidating, but even long-time users of vibrators will find its unique shape a welcome addition to their toy box.

Use

Although classified as a clitoral vibrator, LAYAspot is much more. It has been designed to fit over the entirety of the vulva, including labia and clitoris. You can also use the LAYAspot on a man's scrotum and penis, or for any external stimulation really.

The small, form-fitting shape of the LAYAspot also allows it to be used for clitoral stimulation during intercourse. You can either hold it in place, or in certain positions you might be able to use it hands-free.

Material / Texture

LAYAspot is made of a combination of hard plastic and "elastomed", which is Fun Factory's formulation of elastomers. It's a safe material (no phthalates, no smells, etc.) and is safe to use with either water-based or silicone lubricants.

It has a smooth, but not glossy finish, which my girlfriend found quite good for its intended use on the vulva.

Design / Shape / Size

The design is quite interesting. It's similar to some other vibrators, but nothing else is quite the same. It remains my girlfriend's favorite clitoral vibrator, thanks to its unique shape. In addition to delivering vibrations to just the right spot, she also found its design easy to hold onto during both masturbation and intercourse.

It's relatively small (easy to hide, and good for traveling) but not so small as to make it hard to handle. (In comparison, my girlfriend had some trouble holding onto the Lelo Lily at first, because it was so small.)

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls are pretty easy to figure out. Hold down the + to get it started, and to increase the vibration. Hold down - to decrease the vibration, or to turn it off. Once it's up to full speed, you can release + and then press it again to switch to any of several patterns. The switching between holding down the button and pressing/releasing it is slightly unintuitive at first, but you learn pretty quickly how to change the settings.

The vibrations are pretty strong (although obviously not Hitachi strong, with just a few little batteries), and it has a good range if you want to start off slow. This is a somewhat rumbly vibe, not a buzzy vibe. (Hard to describe, but if you are experienced with vibrators you probably recognize the distinction.)

When it's new it is pretty quiet, but as ours got older it began to get noisier and noisier. After a few years it started making some grinding noises, and then eventually stopped working very well. But we had been using it very heavily for two year at that point, and there's only so much you can expect from any vibrator.

It's not really waterproof, but it's splash-resistant enough to make cleaning easy.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning the LAYAspot is pretty easy. We usually cleaned it in the sink, with soap and water. You can't really sterilize this toy, so it probably shouldn't be shared with anyone you're not fluid bonded with. I suppose you could wrap it in a condom, but that seems suboptimal for a toy shaped like the LAYAspot.

You should be able to use both water-based or silicone lubricants with LAYAspot, as it is not made from silicone. (Silicone lube is fine with hard plastic and elastomers.) But my girlfriend and I use water-based lube for everything, so that's what we've always used.

Packaging

The LAYAspot comes in one of the best packages I've ever seen for a sex toy. The people at Fun Factory really go to great lengths to make a package which would look good on the shelf of any store. It also has the most informative packaging I've ever seen, with all sorts of useful information printed on the box.

I wouldn't want to use the box for storage, but I'd be perfectly willing to wrap it up and give it as a gift in this box. It's a very professional design, which very much impressed me.

Experience

Unfortunately our LAYAspot died after about two-and-a-half years of heavy usage. I don't think this was due to any defect in design or manufacturing... we just enjoyed it so much that it was being used constantly.

We haven't bough a replacement yet. Instead we decided to try out the LELO Lily, which has a similar overall design, but is very different in the details. The LAYAspot's vibrations worked better for my girlfriend, so we very well may buy another LAYAspot at some point. It's that good.

I've been looking at this one too but I'm not sure about vibes anymore because I can't seem to find one that has a low enough vibration level to be comfortable for me. I suppose I should try some out in a store before I order one from EF. The LAYAspot seems promising overall though, with a pretty small price tag.

    Thanks for the review!

I've seen conflicting information regarding whether this is silicone or elastomed...I'm slightly confused after reading a bunch of reviews for the LAYAspot. Thanks for the review, though.
