MiMi - discreet massager discontinued by Je Joue - review by Apirka

MiMi from Je Joue is a fabulous little luxury vibrator that offers deep and rumbly sensations. Discreet, waterproof and silky smooth, MiMi glides over your erogenous zones with ease. With several vibration powers and patterns to choose from, nearly everyone should have a good time playing with this quiet and rechargeable toy. Because of its size and shape, the MiMi is not meant for vaginal or anal insertion.

Mimi is coated in velvety soft silicone that rates a 10 on Eden's safety scale. The toy is very smooth with no discernible seam and very little, if any, drag. The only texture on the toy is a small imprint of the manufacturer's name. There is a small circle of plastic surrounding the operating buttons, but plastic (like silicone) is non-porous, hypo-allergenic, latex free and phthalate free, and easy to care for.

Upon opening the box, my MiMi had a faint "new toy smell" that dissipated after a few washes. The toy doesn't seem to hold on to other smells either and has no taste. However, MiMi does seem to attract lint and hair.

Mimi's shape can best be described as a flattened chicken egg. It's small with no sharp edges and fits nicely in the palm of my hand. MiMi is good for beginners and more experienced folk alike, though the design provides broader stimulation over pinpoint. The toy is very discreet and easy to travel with. The size and shape of MiMi also allows it to fit between two bodies during sex.

Plus and Minus buttons turn MiMi on and off and allow you to cycle through its settings. To turn on, hold the + button for 2 seconds. To cycle up through the vibration powers and patterns, simply click the + button and click the - button to go back down. Hold the - button for 2 seconds to shut off. While turned on, a red light will glow through the toy where the Je Joue name is imprinted in the silicone. The vibrations can be felt through the entire toy though they are more intense at the tip. Applying pressure dissipated the sound a little bit, but not the power.

MiMi is rechargeable and comes with a magnetically attaching charger color-coded to match the color of the toy. The charger attaches to the + and - buttons and the red light in the toy will blink until it is fully charged. MiMi is also completely waterproof (though the booklet does advise against submerging it for more than 15 minutes) so it can be used in and around water, making it very easy to clean as well.

Some have said that their MiMi was virtually silent or they could use it while someone else was in the room without disturbing them. I don't know if mine is louder or I just perceive it to be, but mine isn't silent and can be heard from under the covers especially on the higher settings. This can't be heard through a closed door though.

Mimi's power and pattern levels are:
1-5: Starting at a low and steady vibration and increasing in power until the highest power setting
6: Steady long pulsations akin to your average alarm clock beeping
7: Steady, quicker and shorter pulsations similar to 6
8: Oscillating or roller-coaster vibration from highest to lowest and back again
9: Quick and short rolling type pulsations that seem to go from low to high, low to high, etc. with a slight pause in between
10: Similar to 9 but quicker and steady without the slight pause in between the pulsations

MiMi does not have a memory, so when turned on, it will always be at the first setting. All the patterns seem to be on the highest power setting and you can't change the power either, though that seems to be something the new three button MiMi will change. Also, you can scroll back through the settings with the - button during use, but once you scroll back up to the first setting with the + button, the - button won't let you go back to the highest. You have to use the + to scroll back through.

Because it is silicone and waterproof, cleaning the MiMi is simple. Soap and water, toy cleaner, toy wipes, alcohol, or water/bleach solution... all will work. Because this is an electronic toy, do not boil or place in the dishwasher. Also use only water-based lubricant if it is desired.

Because MiMi is small, it can easily be stored anywhere. No storage pouch is included, though you can make or purchase one, or simply store the toy in the box it came in.

The packaging for the MiMi is wonderful! It is also very discreet with "Je Joue MiMi" on the top and sides, a small picture of the toy on the sides and bottom (though the small description of the toy on the bottom translated into French and Spanish does bear the words "sex toy"). That outer box is in Je Joue's "signature" purple, the inner box containing the toy is black. The only markings on the black box are the words "JE JOUE" on top along with their logo/symbol. The box is closed with a simple black ribbon tied into a bow. Untying the ribbon, the top of the box lifts open and the MiMi can be found sitting on a plastic tray with a slight groove for the toy. Underneath the tray is MiMi's instruction booklet and charger. The booklet seems rather long, but the English portion of instructions is only a few pages.

Though the outer box does contain the words "sex-toy" on the bottom, the inner box is beyond discreet and would appear to be a jewelry box to anyone not in the know. The entire packaging is perfect for gift giving or storage. I'm one to get rid of all packaging after reviewing a product, but I can't bring myself to toss Je Joue's boxes. They are that nice.

I debated for some time over whether or not I should purchase the MiMi. Everyone seems to recommend it, even though it was a bit expensive, in my opinion. I was actually rather happy with my plain old corded bullets, but I did crave something quieter and completely waterproof. Plus the lack of pinpoint stimulation was definitely a negative check against the MiMi. Regardless, I broke down and got it with the help of the Valentine's discounts. And honestly, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Obviously, the first thing you hear about Je Joue is that their packaging is awesome! It's so nice that even I wouldn't toss it, and I toss everything. The only thing missing was a simple drawstring pouch to slip the toy into (though I just made my own with no problem).

I did have a little trouble trying to charge MiMi the first time. The magnetic charger didn't seem to want to "connect" and it certainly didn't clasp on and hold the toy while dangling as others have shown in photos (though during the second charge it DID do this). After I got the charger to finally hold on to the toy and set it down, it wouldn't start charging. I had to fiddle with it some more before the red light started blinking and let me know it was indeed charging now. The first charge took about 2 hours before the red light stopped blinking and glowed steadily. I had none of these problems the second time I charged the toy though.

After the first charge, I turned it on to check out the power and patterns. I had no trouble turning it on but when I tried to shut it off, I couldn't. I pressed the minus button several times, held it in for several seconds, pressed it again and it wouldn't do anything. After several tries, I was finally able to shut it off. But I'm happy to report that that instance was the one and only time I have ever had trouble with the MiMi's buttons. Seriously. After reading all the reviews, I expected the buttons to be horrible and very hard to push. But I find the buttons very easy to press and I have no problem telling which button is which only by feel in the dark or while in use without looking. I don't know if that's because I keep my nails cut short, but I've used all my fingers from different angles and from different places on the tips (even a knuckle) and I still had no troubles. I'm also glad that I got the 2 button MiMi because after using the 3 button Uma, I personally don't like the separate pattern button.

As for the toy itself, it is wonderful to use. I personally don't feel it is the strongest out there (to me, it's only a 4 vroom toy), but I don't have a sensitive clit. I'm also not much of a pattern lover, but I have to admit that I do enjoy the second one (which feels like a faster, urgent alarm clock beeping). I also got quite a bit of play out of this before having to recharge. After the initial 2 hour charge, I got about 2 1/2 weeks of not quite daily use of about 5 minutes or less on the highest setting with brief pattern play before MiMi just died on me. I didn't notice less power before it quit either. A second charge only took 2 hours as well.

I keep MiMi in my nightstand where my trusty, powerful corded bullet use to sleep. After playing with it for almost a month, I can definitely see why so many people recommend it. It's quiet, powerful, so soft and smooth, discreet, rechargeable, and waterproof. While I do require another toy for pinpoint stimulation and wish that this had just one more power level, I give the MiMi its hard-earned 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
