Use

If you're like me, and are a sucker for anything and everything bath/shower related, you'll love this! It smooths skin, removes dry patches and allows lotions and body butters to spread and sink in nicely.

As with any other scrub, it's usually recommended that you cleanse your skin first before using to aid in scrubbing off dead skins cells instead of just a layer of dirt and oil on the skin (the label doesn't state this, but almost all scrubs I've used do mention this).

Obviously this product should not be used for facial skin and you're going to want to keep it away from your naughty bits. Also be wary of using it on cuts, abrasions or cracked skin because the salts, pumice, and fragrance will cause irritation and burning.

Ingredients: Dead Sea Salt, Pumice, Aqua, Tea Lauryl Sulfate, Propylene Glycol, Carbomer, Oleth 20, Glycetreth 26, Fragrance, Benzophenone 4, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Imidiazolidinyl Urea, Triethanolamine, Disodium Edta May Contain: FD&C Yellow5, FD&C Yellow 6, FD&C Red33, FD&C Blue 1

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This product pours easily from the bottle, so you might want to be a little careful, otherwise you'll end up with more product than you need. In the bottle, it's opaque enough that you can only see light through the bottle; in the hand, it feels like a thin body wash and the color is diluted.

The salts and pumice provide a nice gentle scrub. I didn't find these to be rough or sharp at all, but definitely not as gentle as more rounded granules. The product spreads easily over skin and the salts/pumice do not dissolve so you can get a nice scrub on before rinsing off. Venus Body Scrub also doesn't lather; but if you rub your hand briskly over the same spot, you will produce a very slight milky lather rather than a bubbly one.

Taste / Aroma

Upon opening the bottle, the Lavender scent was strong but floral, rather than chemical smelling, which I definitely appreciated. During use and for a bit afterward, the shower/bathroom smelled quite lovely though my skin didn't hold on to the Lavender scent for very long.

I did not taste this nor should you. As with any other bath product, this is for external use only; do not ingest.
    • Light smell on skin
    • Smells good
    • Strong smell in bottle

Performance

The Venus Body Scrub performed exactly as I had assumed it would. It didn't feel sticky or greasy and only a small amount was needed for each body part I used it on. This didn't leave my skin feeling rubbed raw like some scrubs do and it rinsed off nicely and completely. After drying off, this left my skin smooth not soft, so I would definitely recommend an application of lotion or body butter.

Packaging

This comes in a clear plastic bottle with a black screw top lid. The sticker on the front lists the name, scent and volume (8 oz.). An outline of a female body is also on the sticker; inside the body is a picture depicting the chosen scent and the color of the whole label also indicates scent (a field with Lavender flowers and purple label for Lavender).

The back has a clear label sticker and states "Fall in love with Venus body scrub made to buff your skin to its softest". Below that is the same phrase in Spanish. Underneath is the ingredient list, Venus website and address and UPC code.

There is nothing at all on the bottle that screams "SEX!", so this would not offend anyone that sees it which makes it a great gift.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Would make a nice gift

Experience

I was rather leery about trying this product because I am somewhat scent sensitive, hence why I also didn't purchase the Venus Body Butter to match. Upon twisting off the cap, my nostrils were filled with a rather strong, flowery, Lavender scent, though I'd honestly rather have that over a fake, chemical, Lavender smell.

Before using the product, I soaped up with my usual body wash to remove dirt and oil from my skin so the scrub could do its work properly (plus my Olay wash is rather strongly scented and I didn't want it to compete with the Lavender so I could test how long the scent lasted). Thankfully the smell wasn't as strong out of the bottle as it is in and my bathroom smelled quite nice for a half hour or so after my shower.

I only applied a small amount of the scrub to my skin but it spread easily and rinsed off thoroughly. After toweling off, my skin had a soft layer of Lavender scent, nothing too strong though. Sadly my skin, especially my upper arms and back, felt rather dry but I refrained from applying lotion, again because I wanted to test how long the scent lasted. Hours later, I could only detect the very faintest hint of Lavender still on my skin. I see that some other reviews stated that their scent was still noticeable, but I know from personal experience that my choice of scent (Lavender) doesn't particularly stick around for too long no matter the product it's in... perhaps that is why I like it so much. It's a very subtle scent compared to others, so I'm sure the other scents lasted much longer than mine did.

Also this smoothed my skin not softened it because there are no actual oils in the scrub, so lotion or body butter afterward is nice. I refrained from purchasing the Venus Body Butter because I was unsure whether I would like the scent or not and if it would be too strong. But I rather enjoyed the scent and it didn't cause any headaches, so I think next time I'll get the body butter to match (and probably a few other scrub scents as well!).

The only complaint I have with this is that I wish it came with a flip-top lid instead of a screw off top.
Follow-up commentary
Even though I've used this several times, the bottle is not even close to being half empty. The Lavender scent is still very subtle on my skin and I definitely still recommend using lotion after scrubbing because this is not at all moisturizing. I have noticed no skin irritations and there are still no headaches, so I continue to think this is a great product at an affordable price.
