Not So Scrubby

All in all, I believe this is a good product for those who don't have sensitive skin who are looking for a gentle to mid-level exfoliant. However, if you are wanting something that will get down and dirty and remove quite a bit of dead skin, then you should probably skip on this proudct.

Use

Venus body scrub is meant to be your daily or weekly, or whatever routine body scrub in the shower or bath. This is for anyone and everyone looking for softer skin. Well, that's the idea anyway. This is marketed as an "aromatic body scrub." I am not debating its aromatic qualities as I found this to be rather pleasant (though, I picked the safe scent of Cucumber Melon as I know for certain what it smells like).

While I find that this product does a good job at scrubbing and cleansing, I feel like if I'm buying a body scrub, it should definitely feel grittier. I have a body wash that I use on a regular basis that has some scrubbing beads in it that do a better job than this stuff, and what I use outside of Venus isn't even marketed as a body scrub.

Now, with my disappointments of this product aside, I would like to point out that those with sensitive skin may want to avoid this product as it contains paraben and some dyes. I have been known to have reactions to certain products, but this didn't bother me. However, like I said, if you have more than a few reactions to body washes or scrubs, steer clear of this.

Ingredients:
dead sea salt, pumice, aqua, tea lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, carbomer, oleth 20, glycertreth 26, fragrance, benzophenone 4, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, imidiazolidinyl urea, triethanolamine, disodium edta.

Then it goes on to say that it may contain: fe&c yellow 5, fd&c yellow 6, fd&c red 33, and fd&c blue 1.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

For a body scrub, this stuff is surprisingly runny. Don't let that be a total turn off, though. It does a pretty good job for being so runny. The texture and feeling of it is almost like a water-based lube, but with some soapy qualities to it. On Dry skin it slides around rather easily, and on wet skin, it foams up the more you scrub. On dry skin, too, it has an almost waxy feel as it dries.

Be careful when pouring this into your hand, on a poof, or wash cloth, though. Since it is runny, it sometimes has the tendency to leap out of the bottle, giving you more product than you had really planned on using.

Taste / Aroma

The aroma of this is perfectly equated to your typical cucumber melon scent. It is not overbearing, and in the shower, the scent doesn't lose any of its power. I have noticed, however, that like with a lot of cucumber melon scented products, sometimes it smells more like the skin of a cucumber than like there is any melon in it at all. Though, I do honestly think this is just part of being cucumber melon scented. I've had many hand soaps and body sprays of this scent that occasionally smelled of this as well. I do find it pleasant if you are looking for that well-known scent. It's a good introduction to the product if you are unsure about any of the other scents it comes in. Oh, and as a side note, remember that even if this product smells yummy, don't eat it. It is, after all, for your body, not your tummy.

Performance

Alright, so I will digress back to my original statement that this product disappoints me a bit. When I think of a body scrub, I think of something that is thick, maybe a little sticky, and barely foams up if it does at all.

Since there is dead sea salt in this, do expect the gritty little salt grains to disappear while washing, that's just what salt does. However, there is also pumice in here.

I felt like as a body scrub, it shouldn't foam up like soap so much as it should scrub. While this product does a semi-decent job scrubbing, I feel like it could do better. It foams up like a body wash while in the shower and I felt like I was only getting a good scrub because I had this product on my bath poof which exfoliates on its own as is.

This does rinse off very well, though, which I do find bothersome in a lot of other body scrubs. Sometimes they are TOO thick and then I feel like I am spending more time rinsing in the shower than scrubbing or cleaning. So, when it comes to the rinsing test, this passed quite well. I'm just not so certain it does a great job as a scrub itself.

Personal comments

I honestly don't think I'll purchase this product again once I'm done with this bottle. I bought it to work as a deep exfoliation product and it hasn't met those expectations, though I think anyone who wants a gentle exfoliant should definitely consider this product and not let my review scare you away from it.
Follow-up commentary
While I am marking that I still don't like this product, I MUST mention that my girlfriend likes to use it. She doesn't quite care for the smell, but she loves how the product works. She uses it to exfoliate her upper pubic area before shaving and she likes it quite a bit. The smell used to be one that I really liked, but I'm really not fond of it any longer and I don't think that's fault of the product itself, but of my changing tastes in scent.
