Silk lube - lubricant discontinued by Sliquid, LLC - review by Eva Schwaltz

Sliquid Silk is a hybrid lube, meaning it contains both water and silicone. It states on the bottle that this is a water-based lube with a silicone blend. It is a great lube that you can use for just about everything, using toys, intercourse, and anal sex. If you are like me and often have personal driness, this lube solves that problem very quickly. You may want to be cautious about using this lube with silicone toys, but so far I haven’t encountered any problems. It can be easily washed or wiped off which makes for a nice, easy clean-up.

Sliquid is known for sticking with natural ingredients, and there is nothing in this lube that is harmful to the body. There is no glycerine, parabens, or L-Argenine. To be absolutely certain you have no reactions to this lube, you can always do a spot test on your inner wrist. The ingredients are: Purified Water, Plant Cellulose (from Cotton), Isopropyl Palmitate, Polysorbate 20, Dimethicone, Emollient Ester, Potassium Sorbate.

Silk has a nice thick consistency. It dispenses slowly, but it also stays in place very well. The texture is very silky and slippery for those who like a nice glide. It requires you to spread it around if you are using it with toys. It is not runny and will not drip all over the place which I really love. Other things it has going for it is that it is not stringy, or tacky, and it absorbs nicely into the skin when it dries. It has a white color which may bother some people, but I can get over it.

I couldn’t detect any odors from silk, but there is a bitter taste to it. The taste is quite strong, but it doesn’t linger. If you want to do oral, a different lube might be a better choice.

I was actually very disappointed with this lube. For being a hybrid lube, I was expecting it to last a lot longer than my water based lubes. It doesn’t last as long as System Jo h2O or Maximus. I have the Wet Synergy Warming which lasts a very long time, so I had high hopes that Silk would last just as long. Silk feels like it contains a lot less silicone, so I feel fine using it with silicone toys. It also washes off easily which is a definite plus. I will still continue to use this lube because I enjoy the extra slickness that the added silicone provides, but it’s not the longest lasting lube out there. I have had to reapply it to some of my larger toys, but that’s a typical problem I encounter with most lubes.

Silk comes in a 4.2 oz or 125 ml bottle with a push cap. I haven’t had any problems with it leaking, but for travel, you might want to place it in a bag or put a piece of tape over the cap. The bottle is quite discreet. No one will know what it is unless they look closely at it, but it can easily pass for a hand cream if left on your nightstand or dresser.
