Great potential, but it falls short

The Fairy Rechargeable is a great idea, but it needs some improvement before I'm willing to recommend it to people. The fact that it doesn't last long on a very long charge overshadows the design and concept. If they come out with a Fairy Rechargeable 2.0 that lasts as long as it says it will or longer I'll give it another chance. Until then, this one just doesn't make the cut.

Use

The Fairy Rechargeable is a massager-type vibrator that is meant to be used mainly on the clitoris, but could be used anywhere on the body you would like vibration. There are also attachments available for the Fairy that can be used if you want penetration along with the vibration.

The Fairy Rechargeable would be best for someone who wants to get off quickly and move on with his or her day. The frequency of the vibration is high, so if you use this toy for too long you will eventually go numb. If you want a longer masturbation session, this may not be the toy for you.

Material / Texture

The Fairy Rechargeable is made out of plastic, which makes it safer than a lot of materials since it is phthalate-free, but not as safe as silicone, metal or glass. There is a little bit of ribbing on it, but I really didn't think it made a difference in use.

The plastic translate the vibrations well, but I really think this would be better if it were made of silicone or non-porous TPR. A little give in the massager head would be great.

Design / Shape / Size

Since this is my first massager-style vibrator I don't have anything to compare it to, but I do know that it's much less of a best than the Hitachi. It's lightweight and fits nicely into your hand, no worries, you don't have to use two hands with this one.

The best thing about the design is that it has a dial instead of a switch or buttons for the speeds. This way you can work your way up to high vibration rather than shocking yourself with oh-my-god-intense levels of vibration right from the start. This also allows you to decrease back down before you turn it off after use, which I know is something a lot of people like to do.

Even though it's smaller than the Hitachi, it's not incredibly small so you may want not want to travel with this one. Fairy makes a Fairy Mini Mini which is much smaller which could be a better option for travel if you'd like a travel Fairy.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The performance, which I think everyone would agree is the most important part, is where this toy falls short. According to the box, it takes 60 minutes of charging to last from 20 to 30 minutes. After that it says "depending on circumstances." I thought that this didn't seem like much time, but I figured if it's anywhere close to normal massager power I would get off in 2-3 minutes and it wouldn't matter. Isn't that what these things are meant to do anyway?

Well, it turns out that since it's USB charge, it's not all that powerful. It's frequency is high enough that you numb quickly, but it lacks the raw power it needs to overcome the numbness and then finally when you're almost there, it shuts off. Mine shuts off every time within 4-5 minutes. For me with this particular toy, that is not enough time to get off so I've had to grab something else each time to finish myself off.

I then tried charging for intervals of 3 1/2 to 24 hours and eventually got it to work or about 13 minutes. If you need longer than that, you're out of luck. It's also very frustrating that it does not hold charge, so you need to use it immediately after you charge it.

Therefore, I can't really say that when it comes down to do this performs well. I have heard that it can work better in a wall charger, but I didn't receive a wall charger so it seems either not all come with the wall charging option or the person I talked to just got a special one.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning the Fairy Rechargeable is simple. When you're done using it, just wipe it down with a toy cleaning cloth or use mild soap and water. If you're going the soap and water route, try to keep the water off the body of the toy as it's not waterproof.

I store the toy in the provided toy bag and just slip the charging cord in along with it as it isn't big enough to warrant its own bag. It fits just fine.

Since this is plastic, you can feel free to use whatever lubricant you'd like.

Packaging

The toy comes in a plastic shell within a cardboard box that is decorated pink and white. 99% of the writing is in Japanese, so I can only make out a few words about the charge time, the name of the toy and a few other minor details. There is no instruction manual included, but this toy is pretty self-explanatory.

It does come with a small pink storage pouch which is just big enough for the toy and the charging cord. The cardboard box is not storage quality, so I threw it in the recycling and just keep my Fairy in the pink storage bag.

Personal comments

I've tried charging the Fairy Rechargeable from 60 minutes to 24 hours and it hasn't made it last any longer than 14 minutes for me. I have heard some come with a power cord for the wall, but mine did not, so I only tried charging this via USB as indicated. If you have an adapter that can hook a USB into your wall, you might have better luck getting this toy to take and hold a charge.
