Nea - clitoral vibrator discontinued by LELO - review by Reiyth

The Lelo Nea is a clitoral vibrator and is best at what it is designed for. You can also use it to stimulate other erogenous zones such as the nipples, scrotum, etc., but it is definitely not suited for insertion. The ergonomic shape and slim profile lends well to partner sex since it can fit relatively comfortably between bodies, but of course it can also be used for solo play as well. Unfortunately the Nea is NOT waterproof so water sports is a no go. This pretty little thing is discreet, easy to conceal, and pretty quiet. Anyone living in close quarters with others or wanting a handy travel partner will find the Nea useful.

The Nea is made out of a hard shiny plastic. Plastic is one of the more body friendly of toy materials and gets an 8 out of 10 on the safety scale. The plastic is glossy and slick with no drag at all. Since the plastic is very hard, if you have a preference for softer toys this may not work for you. It has a seam that runs along the edge of the entire outside circumference of the toy. I got the black version with the light purple flower detailing. The two buttons on the underside of the toy are raised and edged in what feels to me like silicone. I didn't notice any smell or taste to the Nea.

The Nea is an elongated oval that is narrower on one end than the other. When viewed in profile the Nea is curved inward like a bent finger. I feel the shape most closely resembles the shape of two fingers bent slightly, which makes it very ergonomic for reaching your clit.



The size is also about as wide and as long as two fingers example and measures 3 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. It is slightly shorter and narrower than the JeJoue Mimi, another popular clit vibe which I'm showing comparison photos of.



The size of the Nea makes it super easy to slip into a purse or pocket while the shape and the pretty flower detailing makes it a pleasure to look at. Both make this vibe a perfectly discreet travel companion. I also enjoyed the ergonomic shape of the Nea as it made it seem like an extension of my own fingers. Despite the Nea's small size I had no issues with the vibrations traveling to my fingers and numbing them. I tended to use the Nea with the my fingers on top and my thumb underneath right on top of the two buttons. This made it very easy to press the buttons to dial up or down the intensity during use.

The Nea has two buttons at the bottom of the underside of the vibe. These buttons I found very well placed and their raised edges made them easy to find without looking. They are also easy to press, but not so easy that you are hitting them by accident. A neat feature is the ability to lock the Nea for travel by holding both buttons down simultaneously for a few seconds. The right button turns it on and increases the power of the vibrations, the left button lowers the power of the vibrations and turns it off. There are no "levels" on the power settings, there are also no patterns. When you press the button the power increases gradually until you let the button go. Likewise with decreasing the power in the opposite direction. I really liked that about the Nea because you can literally pick any level of power in the range of the toy, so if you are picky about how much power you need you can easily hit your "Goldilocks" setting without being forced to chose between too strong or too weak. It bears mentioning that my Nea is a few years old though, so there may be some differences in newer models.

That being said, hopefully you don't need much power because the Nea's range starts at super weak and goes to a weak medium. It's vibrations were comparable to most of the cheap 10-20 dollar vibes I've tried in the past. I would say that the vibrations on Nea's highest setting are a little bit lighter than the low setting on the Wahl and not comparable to JeJoue's Mimi at all. The Mimi is hard to compare to the Nea simply because the Mimi's vibrations are so low pitched and "rumbly" even on the lowest settings while Nea's are very buzzy. The Nea isn't very loud - I doubt it could be heard through the covers. Of course being made of hard plastic, if I touch it to something hard (like my ring) it will rattle against it noisily.

The Nea is rechargeable which is definitely convenient, as I tend to go through a lot of batteries. The buttons start glowing when it is plugged in to let you know it is charging. It usually takes me a little less than 2 hours to charge from completely empty. It was rare for me to use the Nea for more than about 10 minutes at a time, but if it up I estimate I get about an hour play time on a charge.

The Nea's box works great to store it in, and that's where I usually keep it. Being made of hard plastic means that you are free to use all of your favorite lubes ( a plus for me since silicone is my favorite).

Unfortunately since the Nea isn't waterproof you will have to take extra care not to cause damage when you are washing her. I usually just wipe her off with a toy wipe or a damp cloth. Toy spray should work as well as long as you don't spray it directly into the charging port. You should pay extra attention to the seam that runs all the way around the outer edge of the Nea, as stuff can get lodged in that groove.

The Nea is packaged in a hard black box with a matte finish and a nested lid with "LELO" in shiny lettering embossed on it. When you lift the lid, your Nea is resting in a groove on a hard piece of plastic inside the lower portion of the box. Removing your Nea reveals a hole in the groove of plastic that allows you to lift the piece of plastic out to reveal Nea's charger in the space below. The packaging is very discreet and is reminiscent of a very large jewelry box. I would have no problems leaving this out on a dresser and it makes a great place to store your Nea when not in use.

I was really excited to get the Nea as this was my very first high end-vibe. I had never spent much more than $40 or so for a vibe before so I guess I had high expectations. The shiny sexy black with the romantic flower details along with the glowing reviews convinced me to take the plunge. When I first got my Nea I was super excited. The box was such high quality and it looked so pretty- everything about it said that I was going to love it and I had made the right choice. That was until I used it for the first time. I was shocked to find out that all the extra money I had spent had only got me a pretty face and a rechargeable battery. The Nea wasn't any more powerful than any of the bullet vibes or $10 pocket rockets I had bought at the seedy local shops in the past. I was really crushed. After the first few times I tried to use it (and failed to have it do anything for me) it got relegated to the back of the toy drawer to collect dust. I also found that it bothered me more than I expected that it couldn't join me for fun time in the shower. Every once in a while I trot it out only to be just as disappointed as the first time, it never has been able to get me even close.
