Great and Cute Little Rocket

If you want a small vibrator that is basic and of intermediate strength, then this cute little thing is just about perfect. Easy to hold and apply to your clitoris, with waterproof capabilities, ridges for a little extra stimulation if you rub or grind, and even the ability to barely dip inside your vagina for a little bit of teasing to warm up before using something bigger. And it's fairly quiet, too.

Use

Bottle Rockets Saturn is best for clitoral stimulation. It is too slender and short to reach the g-spot, and it cannot do much during penetration other than tease or warm up. It is certainly designed with the clitoris as its main target, though there are a few other uses as well.

Material / Texture

The material is a very safe plastic, with the screw-on bottom part being hard and smooth, while most of the length is covered with a velvety coating material. The toy is overall solid, not bendy, and it will not compress at all no matter how much you squeeze it. The smooth plastic is very smooth, like running your fingers over a counter top, while the velvety portion has a slightly soft and draggy texture. The entire velvety portion is covered with small ridges, arranged so that the ridges run perpendicular to the length (like the rings of the planet Saturn, which is I would guess how they named this vibrator).

The taste is barely there and is hard to describe, but I would say it tastes a bit like wax, like putting your tongue on a (regular, unscented) candle. It is not unpleasant at all. There is also a slight waxy/plastic smell, but only if your nose is right up to it.

Design / Shape / Size

The overall aesthetic effect of the design is very nice. Even after the Saturn is out of the cute packaging, it is still a very cute little toy; beautiful and pleasing to look at. It doesn't look obscene, it looks toy-like, almost like something you might find in a sandbox after children have been playing. However, I imagine that anyone who knows what a vibrator is would recognize the Saturn as a vibrator pretty quickly after seeing it. It is not obscene, but it is not discreet either, except in terms of being so small that it is very easy to conceal it.

The size easily fits within my hand, and is shorter than the length of my hand. This is a petite little vibe, smaller than I first imagined by looking at a picture online, so it is important to actually look at the given measurements or to use the ruler tool for viewing the actual product size (which is what I did before buying, so the size was not a surprise to me, but it would have been if I hadn't looked up the actual size). The Saturn is in that intermediate range where it is smaller than most vibrators but larger than most bullets.

As well as being short, the Saturn is slender. If you are a complete beginner to vaginal penetration, or if you only want to use the Saturn for teasing and warm-up, it could be great, but otherwise it is inadequate for that use. If you are a complete beginner to vaginal penetration, you will probably soon become frustrated with the Saturn's extreme shortness and reach for something longer. The Saturn's size means it is almost entirely a clit vibe.

The Saturn is so small that it should be easy to conceal in a purse or for travel. As long as you put it in a bag (it does not come with a bag) and as long as luggage checkers do not search through everything, it should not be noticed. However, if it is brought out, it will probably quickly become apparent that the Saturn is a vibrator.

The shape is very easy to hold and it is not heavy. I did not have any difficulties holding it however I wanted.

Functions / Performance / Controls

I cannot tell if the vibrations are located more in one area than in another. As far as I can tell, they are equally felt throughout the length of the Saturn. There are three speeds of vibration, but only one button. Each time you click it, it goes to a higher speed, unless it is at the highest speed, in which case it turns off.

There is a difference in sound between the three speeds, with each higher one sounding slightly more buzzy and higher pitched than the speed before it, but I did not perceive much difference in the strength of the vibrations. The lowest speed is slower and perhaps more penetrating-feeling to me, the highest speed is faster, but all speeds feel about as exciting. I cannot make my excitement level go up by switching from one speed to another (as I can on some vibes where there is more of a difference between speeds). I would call all the speeds medium-strength vibrations, not very strong, but not very light. They are at a level that I find perfectly adequate for teasing and for clitoral orgasms, but the vibrations alone will not get me off super-fast.

All the speeds sound different, but they are at about the same level of loudness. I think anyone in the same room with you would hear the Saturn, even if you hid under a bunch of covers, but I think that most people would not hear it through a closed door. To be sure, you might want to play music or run an air-conditioner.

The entire vibe is ergonomic and easy to hold, and since the button is at the tip of the bottom's taper, it is easy to locate the button by feel. I did not have any problems operating it.

Care and Maintenance

I have only used water-based lube on the Saturn, which is compatible with it. Oil-based and silicone-based lubes are also compatible, however I have not tried these because I do not own any.

I found that the lube washed off easily with soap and water, however the little ridges along most of the toy's length had collected matter during use and I had to rub a bit longer than I would have had to rub on a totally smooth toy. Make sure you look at it after you've cleaned it to make sure you didn't miss a spot. I did not see any material collected along the seam where the base screws in. That seems like a very nice seam.

Having a waterproof toy (waterproof as long as the base is fully screwed in, so remember to do this) is an extra convenience when washing, because then I don't have to be careful about the base.

Since this is not silicone, like most of my toys are, I don't need to store it in such a way that it can't touch other toys. That is nice, to not have to worry so much about a separate bag/container for everything. Its original packaging, while cute, is not something I would like to store it in, so for now I'm just letting the Saturn swim around in my underwear drawer by itself.

Packaging

The package is a cute little bottle; it is one of the cutest sex toy packages I've ever seen; it's pure whimsy. I've kept the bottle because I can't bear to throw out the cute thing yet, even though it's too complicated to unscrew the many parts for me to want to use it for storing the Saturn.

The item and the packaging together are fairly low on the embarrassment scale. Both are cute, both look kind of like regular toys instead of like sex toys, and neither have naked people or anything else obviously obscene about them. Because of this, I think the Saturn is a particularly good gift idea for a young person as their first vibrator, to give at a bachelorette party, or to give to someone who is new to sex toys. It is not as hyper-discreet as some sex toys (such as the MiMi) but it is a lot more discreet/cute than most.

There are a few bad things about the packaging. My particular item arrived extremely dusty on the outside, which was a bit gross and made me think of it sitting on a warehouse shelf for years before I bought it. But inside it was clean so I wasn't worried.

The bottle is also hard to get into. There are almost no instructions on the outside (or on the inside) for how to open the package. I was baffled in the beginning. I initially thought that perhaps I was supposed to get a bottle-opener and pop off the bottle cap. However, some visual inspection showed me that the vibrator is too wide to get out through the top, so I gave that idea up. Next, I noticed a thin band of plastic tightly wrapped around the bottom. I tore that off with my fingernails, expecting that maybe the bottom would drop off then, but it didn't.

I finally unscrewed the bottom, but that was only the beginning of the adventure of getting the packaging open. The Saturn was still held in by a ring. I could not get it out. I tried unscrewing that ring and it worked, but there was a second ring beyond the first ring and for a while I could not figure out what I was supposed to do. Then I realized it. I unscrewed the bottom of the vibrator itself, and the Saturn finally came fully free.

So, yes, to get it in or out of the packaging you have to unscrew three things in a particular order, which makes the package useless for storage unless you're patient or unless you don't take it out often.

Personal comments

As long as you don't want something powerful, this is a perfect clitoral toy. If I want powerful vibrations, I have an extremely powerful toy in the Hitachi Magic Wand, which is so powerful it can easily be painful. I always want to have in my arsenal a "regular" clitoral vibrator, one that cannot cause me pain, for use during alone times and for use during penetrative sex. I bought the Saturn after my two previous "regular" clitoral vibrators both broke. One of them had cracked and I no longer felt it was safe. The other had batteries leak while inside its battery compartment, which ruined it. I threw both of them out and then went looking for something basic, useful, and not too expensive, which is how I ended up buying the Saturn.

Experience

I have used the Saturn in several ways. I've used it as a clit vibe on all its speeds. Rubbing around my clit is pleasurable and so is letting it rest directly on my clit, which I sometimes do just as I'm building up to orgasm. Its vibrations are gentle enough that I have never found them painful, yet they are strong enough to do the job. Maybe I would want them to be a tiny bit stronger, but not much more.

I've also used the Saturn while it is off, to rub my clit without the vibrations. The ridges being so close together feels better than just something smooth rubbing against me, and I found it surprisingly exciting, a lot more than I thought it would be. I did not get myself off that way, but it was a nice tease to add some variety between the times when I had the vibrations on.

I've also used it to penetrate my vagina. Its small size and short length are immediately apparent as soon as I insert it, and I think there is zero chance of it reaching the g-spot or producing a "filling" feeling. However, the ridges do feel very good on my labia, especially if I thrust in and out very fast, and it is so slender that it is easy to use as a warm-up. I couldn't imagine it being the main event for the vagina, just as a labia teaser and as a very mild warm-up before inserting anything bigger. Because it is short and slender, I think there is very little chance of hurting yourself with it even if you are new to vaginal penetration.
Follow-up commentary
My feelings on this toy have not changed. The Bottle Rockets Saturn is a very basic vibe with decent but low vibrations. It's still just as suitable for teasing, mild clitoral stimulation and so on. For its price it is a great deal and I still think of it as one of the best cheap vibes for gifting to a beginner.

However, I do find myself reaching for it less often lately because I've loaded up on higher quality more expensive vibrators. In particular, the We-Vibe Salsa has largely replaced the Bottle Rockets Saturn in my sexual routine.

I have to be honest, you went a little too into a few things and you made this review almost agonizingly long. You have a tendency to repeat yourself a lot and I'm not sure if it is to make it seem like you are more thorough or that you're being descriptive about the product, but this clip from your review is an example:

"*I have only used water-based lube on the Saturn*, which is compatible with it. *Oil-based and silicone-based lubes are also compatible, however I have not tried these because I do not own any*."

You want your reviews to be straight and to the point. No if, ands or buts. I believe you need to look and review other's reviews here on Eden and begin to built your own technique of using structure to write what you need to write - you really need to re-write and revise areas to make sure you don't seemingly appear to get distracted and talk about something unimportant or completely off the subject at hand. If you don't do this, your writing will appear to be a roughdraft.

I am not saying any of these things to belittle you or make you feel bad, it's just I have a pet peeve when it comes to reading other peoples' writing and feeling as if I'm reading the same things over and over again with no structure and no point. Think of writing reviews on Eden like writing a story. It eventually has to go somewhere and you have to get the reader's attention, no matter what.

    Good luck. (:
