Use

My husband is always asking me to rub or massage his back. While scrolling thought the DONA products one evening I came across a great product that I knew we needed to try. The DONA Massage Candle. I figured it would help spice things up a little while also giving us something of the romantic variety. Upon ordering this I wasn't too sure about the scents because I was ordering it over the internet and had never experienced some of them. When I received my package, the first thing I opened was the candle. Oh my, it was heavenly. I ordered the Mangosteen (which was the only scent option at my time of ordering), but there are also 5 other scents you can choose from (Pomegranate, Acai, Blue Lotus, Goji Berry, and Camu Camu).
If you are interested in trying out a massage candle, I highly recommend this one because it is both inexpensive and amazing!

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Before the candle is lit, it's a solid mass that feels much like any other candle. It's smooth to the touchand leaves a little bit of a velvety feeling on your fingertips. The color of the candle is a light ivory shade similar to that of a vanilla scented candle. Once the massage candle is lit, it takes just a few minutes for a little pool of liquid to form and the color begins to change to a yellow-ish color.

The liquid is runny in nature (it is an oil) and easily drips from your fingers. It does not do like candle wax and automatically start to dry/harden. The consistency is similar to that of baby oil minus the greasy feeling. It thickens rather quickly once it's applied to the skin and begins to form a creamy-ish texture for the massage. Be very careful pouring the liquid directly onto the skin (it will be hot and runny) and try to avoid spilling any on your bedding because it would stain. Because this candle is soy-based, it is ideal for those with sensitive skin. Once massaged into the skin, it leaves a wonderful creamy, soft, and velvety texture to the skin which some would describe as a film. It doesn't wind up sticky more greasy, so it isn't necessary to wash off unless you deem necessary. It starts off as being nice and slick like any other oil, and absorbs into the skin wonderfully.

The candle should be lit for roughly 30 minutes allowing a good amount of liquid to form for massage purposes. When you're ready to begin the massage, blow out the flame and wait a few seconds before dipping you fingers into or pouring the oil. If you pour it right away without waiting, you run the risk of burning yourself and the person you're massaging, so please use caution! It is very easy to pour, just be aware that there is not "spout" so it may spill drip off while pouring, so again, be aware that if it gets on your hseets or clothing it may not come out.

Taste / Aroma

When it comes to choosing the aroma of the massage candle, there are six scents avaliable: Blue Lotus, Acai, Pomegranate, Camu Camu, Goji Berry and Mangosteen. I selected was the Mangosteen (like I mentioned, it was the only one left in stock). As soon as you take off the candle's lid, the aroma is enticing. It's not overpowering at all, and is fairly mild.Upon lighting the massage candle, a small pool of liquid will begin to form within just a few minutes. While lit, the aroma will intensify slightly, but will never become overpowering. The aroma will lightly fill the room, causing a relaxing and calming atmosphere. This is the ultimate romantic touch.

Using the massage oil on the skin, it nicely massages and absorbs into the skin. It will leave your skin with a hint of whatever scent it is that you may choose. Once absorbed into the skin, you will only smell it if you put your nose close to the massaged area.

Performance

This was my first massage candle, and I have to say that this one is excellent. The candle is long lasting and can be used for multiple uses not only massages. The massage oil is long lasting, and will leave your skin silky smooth without the need to wash it off after, just as long as you rub it in good. If you're looking for a top quality massage candle that is spa quality and is reasonably priced, then the Dona Massage Candle is a must try for you!

This massage candle should last up to 30 hours which would make it great for being used as just a regular candle sitting around the house.
    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Long lasting

Packaging

When it comes to the packaging of the Dona Massage Candle, it's fully recyclable. If you use all the candle and remove the label you have a completely useful metal tin! It comes in a tin can that measures 2" high and almost 3" in diameter. The tin has a wrap-around sticker label. The label is purple in color with a black lace design on top. The writing is in white, which pops nicely. The front shows the "DONA by JO" at the top. Right beside the logo/title it states both the scent and that it is a "Massage Candle". On the side it says: "an aphrodisiac infused ritual". At the bottom it states: "4oz, 113.4g", and four symbols: "paraban free", "cruelty free", "natural", and "petry. deriv. free". These would stand for: No Petrochemicals, No Phthalates, No Triclosan, and Parabens free.

The back of the tin contains the product description, instructions, ingredients, and company information.
Ingredients are as follows:
Glycine Soja Wax, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Oil, Laminaria Digitata (Algae) Extract, (scent additives), Fragrance.

The bottom of the tin has a sticker, which includes full instructions as well as a warning regarding the uses of the candle.
    • Can be opened with one hand
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Would make a nice gift

Follow-up commentary
I've actually had this candle for a month (even though the review was just recently written) and with it almost used up, I still love it! The smell has yet to disappoint me and I'm looking into adding this in another scent to an upcoming order. It is so reasonably priced that I can't turn it down! If you are a beginner with massage candles I recommend that you try this one out in any scent! :)
