Astroglide - lubricant by BioFilm - review by steelaster

Burn baby BURN

This lubricant is long lasting and safe to use with condoms, however it may not be safe for sensitive skin. This lubricant left me with painful burning sensations, infections and when it dries it becomes cakey. I think if you want a high-quality lubricant, you should look elsewhere. This lubricant may work for you, if you want something easily accessible and relatively inexpensive. I, personally, find the texture, consistency, and ingredients unappealing, but it does have its perks.

For those of you who are not sensitive to glycerin or parabens, this is actually a fairly versatile lube. It works great for masturbation, anal and vaginal play. This lubricant may not be thick enough for anal sex, but for anal fingering it should do the trick. It usually stays slick for the duration of play, which is what I generally look for in a lube. This lube will work great for any material toy and won't destroy the finish on silicone toys. For those of you who are sensitive to glycerin or parabens, I wouldn't even give this lubricant a chance.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The texture of the lube starts out slick, but after a while, once it starts to dry, it becomes tacky. The lubricant leaves a flaky/cakey feeling after play. The consistency is very watery; I would describe the consistency as similar to simple syrup. It does tend to leave you with a sticky feeling and I always felt the need to shower after. I found this lubricant quite a bit thinner than "natural" lubricants, which I personally did not care for. It comes out of the bottle very easily, but you have to pour slowly, so it doesn't get everywhere. When I'm not using this lubricant on myself, it isn't bad. I would say when using this lubricant on my partner it tends to stay in place, and for him, the texture is okay. I prefer thicker lubricants, but if that isn't an issue I would say this might work for you.

Taste / Aroma

The taste of this lubricant is slightly sweet. I found the taste to be the most positive thing about this lubricant, if I had to pick one. I wouldn't say it tastes good necessarily, but if there was any left over from earlier sexual play, when I was going down on my partner, I didn't really mind. The smell was really faint and didn't really have an identifiable smell. I doubt the smell would really make an impact; it wasn't unpleasant in any way.

The product's performance was good and bad. For me, this product was terrible, but for my partner it was pretty good. I'll review it from the positive perspective first. The product lasted long enough to finish any masturbatory or penetrative sex needs. It lasted the entire time when used for anal fingering, when used for vaginal sex, and until climax during masturbation. It did leave a cakey feeling and it is sticky feeling, but it will last for at least 20 minutes. Clean-up is pretty easy, just wash it off with water.

From the other perspective: This product was terrible for my personal needs. It was the first time I found out that I can't use glycerol or parabens, which meant IT BURNS!!! I had to stop everytime we used this, because my entire labia was burning. The best way I can describe the burning sensation is like the feeling of getting lemon in your eye (but in your lady parts). I can't describe how terrible this was. I tried it a few times but it consistently ended the same way: my lady parts burning and sometimes I would get an infection. Obviously, this is not a problem for everyone, and I've noticed that it is more common among women, than it is for men. I would at least take this into consideration when trying a new lubricant for the first time. I don't mind using this on my partner, although it still leaves me with a gross feeling, because it feels sticky and gets cakey, once it dries. It's hard for me to assess whether or not it absorbs into your skin nicely, because of my terrible experience with it, but I would guess not because of the way that it dries.

This product had draw for my partner and I, because it is sold in most grocery stores, so that aspect makes it really accessible. As I mentioned previously, this product is not designed for people who have allergies. That being said, my partner and I still use this lubricant for other purposes. My partner uses it on himself for masturbation, and I use it on him for anal play and manual stimulation. I don't think this product will work well for everyone and I definitely don't think I will use it on myself ever again, but for people looking for a lubricant that they can find at a convenience store, that is safe with condoms and silicone toys, this might work well for you. Just keep in mind that you could have a bad reaction to it.
