Silky Smooth

My girlfriend and I were looking for a great multi-purpose lube, and we found it in Liquid Silk. This versatile water-based lubricant is effective anywhere a reduction in friction is needed – other than oral and rough anal play. Although not free of parabens and dimethicone, it is safe and sufficient for most people.

Use

Liquid Silk essentially reduces friction during intimate sessions. It is extremely easy to use. Just pump however much you need, onto desired areas, and you’re on your way! The pump dispenser is convenient and minimizes mess. Pressing the pump down fully and twisting to lock prevents spillage and is useful for travel. Cleanup is very easy; it completely washes away with mild soap and water.

We mainly use it on toys for anal insertion. It definitely makes insertion a lot easier and painless. However, for thrusting or rough anal play, I would imagine a lot of Liquid Silk or an altogether slicker lube (perhaps silicone-based) would be better. The lube mixes quite well with vaginal fluid, and lasts long enough without much need for re-application. I have also used it on toys and on my hands for masturbation. It feels great, and lasts about the same amount of time as demonstrated by my test (see below).

Precautions: Liquid Silk contains Methyl-, Ethyl-, Propyl-, and Butyl- Parabens, which are commonly used as preservatives, produced by the esterification of para-hydroxybenzoic acid with the appropriate alcohol. It is definitely not for people sensitive or allergic to Parabens. Avoid this product if you have a history of, or are easily prone to, UTIs.

One of the ingredients is Dimethicone, which is a silicon-based organic polymer known for its unusual flow, non-toxic, non-flammable, inert, and optically clear properties. People have expressed concern whether Liquid Silk is safe on silicone toys. We have used it numerous times on silicone toys, for extended periods of time, and we did not notice any deterioration or harm done to the silicone.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

Touch: Straight out of the bottle, it feels slippery, smooth, just like liquid silk. It does not feel sticky or tacky. The viscosity is just right – not too thick (gooey) or thin (watery). With adequate moisture, body fluid, or reapplication, the silky feeling will last. Liquid Silk mildly resembles cum in both look and feel, which can be a positive for some people.

Taste / Aroma

Aroma: Smells like a cross between PVA glue, new stamps, and body-safe hard silicone (like those found in Lelo vibrators). The scent is mild unless you try to sniff it up close. If kept away from the face (which means no nasal or oral contact), most people wouldn’t even notice there was a scent.

Taste: It has an unpleasant taste, slightly sweet at first, which fades away to tasting like the adhesive back of a postage stamp or envelope, and leaves a very bitter aftertaste. Even after 30 minutes, I can still taste the bitterness – yuck.

Performance

I conducted a test to see how long this product lasts. Disclaimer: This is not an overly scientific test or a controlled experiment, or else I would have measured many more variables such as humidity of the room, and repeated the test numerous times.

I washed both hands with soap, and towel dried them. Then I applied one full pump to the back of my left hand, and then started a stopwatch. Using my right hand, I rubbed the lube back and forth gently, not too fast and not too slow. I made sure to keep a consistent pace and pressure throughout the test. At around 6 minutes, the lube started to dry a bit, the texture was not as silky and watery, but still smooth. At around 10 minutes, the watery feeling was completely gone, but the silky smoothness feeling was still there. At 13 minutes, I experienced slight friction between my hands, but the surface was still smooth to rub. At 15 minutes, the silkiness went away, and a re-application (whether it was more Liquid Silk or another water-based substance, such as saliva, bodily fluids, or just plain water) was definitely needed. I used a drop of water for re-application, and the product immediately became smooth, slippery, and watery again.

I realize that since the back of my hand is a fully external surface, the rate of evaporation of the product is faster than that of an internal surface. Therefore, Liquid Silk will last longer on an internal surface. It will last a pretty long time if the surface has any sort of re-application of moisture, such saliva or vaginal fluids.

Packaging

Liquid Silk came packaged inside a plastic bag with tape. The pump in locked position and wrapped on top with clear plastic wrap. Although the packaging was sufficient for the bottle I got, I can see why it might be a problem for some – airborne transport with low pressure may cause leakage. The lube container is made of clear plastic, while the cap and pump is white plastic. A thin layer of plastic adhesive covering the bottle serves as the label. The label directly states the type of product, so I wouldn’t call it discreet. The product title, description, ingredients, and company information is printed on the label. I did not get any other packaging or information with the product, and no expiration date on the bottle either.

Measurements:
The bottle I bought was 250mL (8.45 fl. oz.)
7” height
2.25” diameter of bottle
Each full pump yields 1.8mL of lube

Follow-up commentary
I use this product consistently, and I still like it. The lubrication offered by Liquid Silk is perfect for vaginal intercourse/play because it mixes with body lubricant. The resulting feeling is wonderful and long-lasting. It's good for masturbation as well because it lasts just long enough for me to cum, around 7-10 minutes, before needing reapplication. I still wouldn't recommend it for anal intercourse/play though; something thicker and more slippery is necessary.
