Chaz Bono has been cast on the next season of “Dancing with the Stars,” and personally I can’t wait to see his cha-cha. The New York Daily News reports that Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is praising ABC for creating greater acceptance of transgender people, but lots of people have gotten downright bitchy about the transgender activist and only child of entertainment’s legendary couple Sonny and Cher being a part of the cast.
TheWrap.com reports on one “typical anti-Bono comment,” that included the sentiments “I was sick. Not that I have anything personally again her/him, I just don't want that lifestyle choice continually flaunted in the media esp ABC.”
But the website also points out that for all this type of criticism “there were many who defended Bono and accused his critics of bigotry,” and that this is not the first time the show has had a controversial contestant from a famous family. Remember Bristol Palin?
Well, I was glued to the TV every week to see his mom and dad’s glitzy show and though I’ve never watched DWTS before I’ll tune in for Chaz.
And the beat goes on.
