Broadway is going all out for the first day of legal same-sex weddings in New York. And where better to do it than the place that hosts such moving productions as RENT and Hair? Speaking of Hair, there's going to be a ceremony held on the stage at the St. James.
What kind of ceremony? Why, a wedding, of course. On Wednesday, Tony nominee Rory O'Mally announced a same-sex wedding for July 25, joining a few couples from the Broadway community.
Hair has always been more than just a show—its spirit of activism means changing the world, not just entertaining it,” Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis said in a statement. “The entire company of this amazing production went to Washington to march for marriage equality, and we are honored to be back on Broadway helping New York show the world what real equality means.”
