A 17-year-old student at Alice High School in Alice, Texas, says that after years of practice and hard work to get on the school’s cheer squad, he was kicked off for getting caught kissing another male student.
The unidentified student wasn’t caught in person but by surveillance camera. The student says surveillance video is never checked unless something is stolen, leading him to believe he was targeted for his sexual orientation, reports KRIS/NBC. The students says if he’d been kissing a girl it wouldn’t have been a problem and that students were suspended for kissing half the school would be suspended.
“They should be paying more attention to drugs and alcohol use than kicking a person off the team for kissing,” he told KRIS reporter Spencer Lubitz.
The principal’s decision is under review; the student’s parents said if their son isn’t reinstated on the cheer squad they will take further action.
Seems likely the principal will find himself on the opposing team here. But one thing about this story we can find to cheer about: Goooooooooo, supportive parents!!
