Ami - vaginal exerciser by Je Joue - review by Mwar

Ami is a set of vaginal exercisers by Je Joue, the same company that has given us the one and only MiMi. Ami has 3 different vaginal exercisers. They are designed to be a step program. Beginners are encouraged to start with Ami 1 and work their way up to Ami 2 and Ami 3. Or, depending on your experience and anatomy, you can start at any Ami you are comfortable with.

Kegel exercises are beneficial in many ways. They can strengthen the pelvic muscles and give more controlled and stronger orgasms. They can help with labor during pregnancy and recovery after giving birth. Kegels can also make sexual intercourse more pleasurable and help with incontinence. However, the progress you receive is based strongly on the effort you put into doing kegels (as it is with all forms of exercise).

Ami is great for almost any lady. The three Amis allow something for anyone. If you have a very sensitive vagina, I would first work the retrieval cords with you hands to soften them. They can be a little stiff when first getting them, but they soften through time and use. Ami is quite discreet. While the internal metal balls move around, you won't be heard in public doing your normal daily routine. They can also be worn all day by women on the go. Just having them inserted will make you think about doing kegel exercises more. Ami is an option for all levels of experience.

Ami should not be used anally. At all.

Ami is made primarily out of lovely Je Joue Silicone. It is not exactly the same material as MiMi. It feels a little smoother with less drag. Silicone ranks a 10 out of 10 on the Eden Safety scale. It is very body safe and can be worn for extended periods of time (hours, part of the day). Silicone is hypoallergenic and non porous, so bacteria can dwell inside the toy.

While silicone kegel exercisers are boil-able, Ami is not because the base of the balls have plastic. The plastic is a more vibrant purple color and shiny. The retrieval cord feels like a type of plastic. The cord is sturdy and doesn't really flex. It feels like it will last a long time.

All three Amis are designed to be smooth, save for their shape. There is apparent texture where the plastic base meets the silicone. It can be felt if the balls are not inserted properly. The place where the cords join the plastic base may be felt when first getting Ami. The retrieval cord is a bit stiff. To soften them bend them a bit and massage them with your hands. It helps significantly.

Use water based lubricant to insert Ami. Try and use a little less when inserting Ami 3 because she can slip out easily when lubed up! The balls of Ami are hard, but if you squeeze them a little bit, you can feel some cushion.



Ami 2 and 3 the center where the balls join can be twisted a bit. Do not overextend this flexibility. It is probably designed to enhance comfort. Inside Ami are small metal balls that move about to increase exercise effort on your muscles. There is no overt odor to Ami.

Ami 1

Ami 1 is a single ball. The ball is wider than its sisters which makes it easier to keep inside the vagina. Being wider though, it may be a bit harder for some ladies to insert. Ami 1 weighs 3.375 ounces (given that the total weight of all three are 13.5 ounces and that Ami 1 and Ami 2 are the same weight. Yes folks, I did some math for you folks!). Ami 1 has a circumference of 5 inches. Here she is compared to Fun Factory's Smartballs Teneo Uno.



As you can see, Ami is very spherical compared to a more tapered, elliptical shape of the Uno. The Uno also has some texture and a more flexible, silicone cord. Ami 1 is very beginner friendly and is a decent introduction to kegel toys. If choosing between the Uno and Ami 1, I think the Uno is a bit better in terms of long term wear and comfort.

Ami 2

Ami 2 is the same weight as Ami 1. It is the shape that is different. Ami has 2 balls. Unlike many other dual ball exercisers, Ami two doesn't have a string or thin corde between the two balls. The balls are more joined together and have a thicker center. They are the longest of the three coming in at 3.25 inches not including the cord. The circumference is 4.25 inches at the widest.



Ami 3

Ami 3 is the heaviest and made for more advanced kegel toy users. It is twice as heavy as Ami 1 & 2 (which is 6.75 ounces so long as the given weight is correct!). Ami 3 is the thinnest exerciser with a 3.5 inches circumference at its widest point. It's also shorter than Ami 2 at 2.75 inches (not including retrieval cord).

In terms of discretion, Ami will look like a kegel exerciser to anyone who uses kegel balls. If in their box, Ami is discreet unless someone knows what Je Joue makes. In terms of noise, Ami can't be heard outside the body doing normal things.

It's important to note that the best kegel exercisers will do nothing if the wearer is not consistent and dedicated to their exercises. It can take up to two months to see results, so be patient, have fun, and enjoy your kegel exercises.

That being said, there are a few ways you can practice your kegels daily. You can place your kegel balls in (doesn't matter which Ami) and squeeze on them for 5 second intervals. Then release/rest for 5 seconds and repeat. You can also do a resistance method by squeezing on the ball while slowly pulling it out. Also, you can always check out additional kegel exercises online if you want some variety.

An alternative way to use Ami is to put her in and go about your day. The internal metal balls move about while you move. This makes your muscles automatically respond and gives a workout as well. Also, the fact that the balls are present can encourage you to engage in your pelvic floor muscles. All in all, it's important to find what exercises are best for you and stick with it. If you are new to kegel exercisers, start with Ami 1. If that's easy to manage, try Ami 2. After using Ami 2 for a couple of months, try Ami 3. Don't try and be a badass by going straight to Ami 3 is you haven't had much kegel experience. The work required to hold Ami 3 in can well take the fun out of kegels.

In terms of comfort, Ami can be worn for hours on end once you work the stiffness out of the retrieval cord. The stepping system also allows you to personalize your workout.

Remember: Ami cannot be boiled because it has plastic parts. You can clean your Amis by using soap and water, toy cleaner, or toy wipes. Be sure to clean where the cord joins the plastic and where the plastic base joins the silicone body. Care is easy. Once dry, Ami can be stored in the box or can be placed in a pouch. Only used water based lubricant to protect Ami's silicone coat.

Ami comes packages wonderfully, like all Je Joue toys do. The first box is a glossy card stock. It's not the most discreet since the toy is on the box, but there are not naked people (always a plus!). Get rid of that box to reveal the classic, black Je Joue box. It's exactly the same size box as the one that carries MiMi.





When you open the black box, you'll see all 3 Amis lined up in an angled tray. It's even labeled and has a molded shell for each exerciser. Behind that is an instruction booklet. The box is perfect for storage and can sit on a nightstand with little issue (unless there are children about). This is a good gift if you have a friend who has been wanting a kegel toy. However, make sure they want a kegel toy. I feel gifting someone a kegel toy without warning can say "hey! you got a loose Hoo-ha!" Maybe that's just me though.

My only kegel exerciser before Ami was the Teneo Uno. I started with one ball exercisers because they looked a little less intimidating to me. To be honest, I would have gone with the Teneo Duo, but I'm a color snob and am waiting for the turquoise ones to come in. Alas, I was interested in getting an additional toy be Je Joue and wanted an exerciser set. Ami fit the bill.

I decided to start with Ami 2 because I am used to single ball exercisers. I found them a bit interesting to insert at first, but I realized it was because I did not insert Ami 2 far enough. If you don't insert the toy far enough, the bottom half can peek out. The small indent at the base of the toy ease in insertion. I tend to use my Ami 2 throughout the day and put them in before I start my day. It reminds me to do more active exercises throughout the day.
