Quiver and Shake (100th Review)

Think you've tried it all when it comes to toys? If you haven't tried this one, you haven't. The Eroscillator 2 Plus is unlike anything else I own, and brings a lot of interesting features to the table. The fact that you can change the attachment means that everyone should be able to find something they love about it.

A truly unique toy; I knew I wanted the Eroscillator 2 Plus for my milestone assignment. What better way to mark my 100th review milestone than with a toy that isn't like anything else I own. Is it pretty? Not so much. But after hearing so many rave reviews, I needed to know what all the fuss was about.

The Eroscillator 2 Plus isn't a vibrator, it's an oscillator. So, instead of a motor driven vibration it produces a very rapid side to side motion; think of an oscillating fan on steroids. Yes, it is visually reminiscent of an electric toothbrush. Instead of brush heads, this toy comes with three attachments that are each double sided, providing six unique sensations.

Primarily designed for external clitoral or labial stimulation, each side of each attachment does feel quite different. The instructions suggest slowly exploring your clitoral area and labia with the toy while relaxing and fantasizing, so you can determine which areas of your body respond to the sensations. The back and forth motion is meant to mimic stimulation you would do with your own hand, and the back and forth motion of a finger. The attachments with a depression can cup and cradle your clitoris, a nipple or anywhere you have that will fit in them.

The attachments could also be used for internal vaginal stimulation. Be forewarned that you aren't going to get the normal feeling of a vibrator when inserted. What you will get is the ability to pinpoint the focus of the oscillation. The instructions advise that you can explore and "map" your vagina and locate areas that are intensely arousing for you. I enjoy intense G-spot stimulation, but the Eroscillator isn't my favorite for that. I found I couldn't get intense pressure, and that the oscillations weren't what I was looking for in terms of G-spot play. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Anally, this toy is a bit tricky. I don't recommend you insert the attachments, because they only snap onto the main body of the toy lightly. Several times while I used this clitorally, the attachment fell off and needed to be snapped back on. You wouldn't want to lose one of these attachments anally and need to visit the emergency room. Even if the attachment could be retrieved without professional help, the ends that snap on are quite jagged and would surely cause damage on their trip. If you choose to use the Eroscillator 2 Plus for external anal stimulation, I would suggest covering the attachment with a condom, as the material is porous and can't be sterilized.

Although there is certainly no reason this couldn't be used with a partner, I don't prefer it that way. The Eroscillator 2 Plus requires a fair amount of attention to detail, and specific placement. The small margin or error makes it a toy I keep for solo use. Nothing kills the mood faster than saying over and over that you need it higher/lower, faster/slower or a lighter or firmer pressure.

Material / Texture

The main body of the Eroscillator is made of plastic, which rates an 8 out of 10 on the Eden Safety Scale. It is latex free, hypoallergenic and phthalate free, but it isn't the most attractive color in the world. It is high quality and well made. It feel solid and well built when you hold it. The plastic used isn't thin or flimsy, and it definitely feels like it will stand the test of time. The entire body has ridges, to allow for a comfortable and firm grip on the toy. Both the body of the Eroscillator and the attachments have visible and slightly raised seams. I notice them and feel them slightly, but they have never bothered me during use. The use of a small amount of lube all but negates the sensation they provide.

The attachments that snap onto the main body of the toy are made of TPR, per the manufacturers website. TPR is not usually a material I will choose to use, but for this toy I made an exception. TPR is porous, so it can hold on to bacteria. It cannot be boiled for sterilization, and ranks a 7 on the Eden Safety Scale. Each attachment and its unique texture is detailed elsewhere in this review, but they do vary nicely and provide a wide range of different stimulation. There is something for everyone.

The cord matches the color scheme and is very soft and pliable. It is a fairly standard adapter cord.

There is no odor or taste to any part of the Eroscillator. I have no idea why they chose to use such a strange golden color. It isn't vibrant gold and it isn't brown; it's somewhere in between.

Design / Shape / Size

The main body of the Eroscillator 2 Plus is certainly unique. It fits nicely in my hand, and the slight ridging along the body makes it easy to hold. I think the sizing is nice for everyone, I can't imagine someone having a hard time holding on to it, or finding it too large for their grip. The sizing on the attachments allows them to be used by anyone. There isn't a matter of girth or length, as the toy isn't meant for thrusting.

The main body of the toy measures 8" long, and just over 1 1/4" in diameter. The attachments vary slightly as far as size in concerned. The Golden Spoon is 3 5/8" long, with a maximum width of 7/8". The Ball and Cup is 3 1/4" long, with a maximum width of 3/4". The Grapes and Cockscomb is 2 5/8" long, with a maximum width of 3/4", with the fin in the back extended 1". The cord is 12" long.

The name of the toy is written down the side of it, in depressed text. I don't find it visually disruptive or distracting. If you left this toy out, people might ask what it was, or they might assume it was an odd electric toothbrush. I wouldn't call it particularly artistic, so you might not have the desire to leave it out.

There is a slight flare at the base, where you plug in the cord. I imagine this is for aesthetic reasons, because you cannot really stand this toy up while you have the plug in. It seems like it is designed to stand up, but mine simply will not. Because of the different attachments, and their inability to stand up, this is really not a toy that lends itself to being displayed anyway, so it's really no problem that the base doesn't stand up while plugged in.

The tip, where you click in the attachments, has a blunt rounded tip which tapers down a bit from the shaft of the body. This ensures that the attachments can work unhindered, with no interference from the body of the toy.

And, finally, the attachments:

The Golden Spoon

This is the suggested first attachment, meant for beginners and exploration of the clitoris and labia. The instructions detail a method of exploration, which involves working your way up and down the inner and outer labia, with brief layovers in the clitoral region, so you can detect any areas which are particularly pleasurable to you personally. The Golden Spoon has two sides. One side has a slight depression which looks a bit like a cereal spoon, with a small rounded ball near the top of the depression. The other side is mostly flat, except for 8 raised nubs which are arranged in an oval shape. This is a great warm up attachment, to get your motor running, but I get bored of it fairly quickly. I tend to need more texture in toys, and this is a bit too smooth.

The Ball and Cup

This attachment is rounder and deeper than the Golden Spoon; much more of a hollowed out spherical shape. It is also smaller. There are two sides which offer different sensations. On one side of the Ball and Cup is simply the hollowed out ball; the other side is the rounded back side of the ball, along with three raised nubs. This one is great for cupping areas of your body, like your nipples. It is also the attachment they recommend for internal vaginal exploration and stimulation. I did attempt this and it didn't do much for me internally, but your mileage may vary.

The Grapes and Cockscomb

This one is by far the winner of the bunch if you like texture. It also looks the oddest, with a sort of spacey futuristic vibe to it. Just like the other two attachments, this one is double sided. One side has a raised fin or ridge, which is made up of a series of higher and lower sections. You can use this side, which resembles half of a disc, to get some insanely direct pinpoint clitoral stimulation. It is narrow, so it nestles right between your labia and contacts the clitoris. If you enjoy strong pinpoint stimulation of your clitoris, this side of this attachment will be your favorite way to use the Eroscillator 2 Plus. The other side is a convex area with ten large nubs. The nubs on this attachment are larger and stick out more than the nubs on the other two attachments. The nubs resemble a loosely bunched pile of grapes. This side of this attachment is the most intense texture offered by this set. The movement of this heavily textured attachment is quite intense, and is my favorite of the group. Switching back and forth between the two sides of this attachment is a fun way to get two very intense, but very different, sensations.

This was the attachment that won me over. The other two are nice, but very mild. They all worked for me, and pushed me over the edge, but the Grapes and Cockscomb is truly unlike anything I've ever tried before. Sliding that disc side between my labia and experiencing the intense stimulation that it provided was eye opening to say the least.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Unlike vibrators which may have tons of patterns, the Eroscillator 2 Plus simply oscillates. Yes, it does it at three speeds, but you don't get any patterns with this toy. The portion of the main body where the name is written slides forward and back, allowing you to change between three speed settings. They are labeled 1, 2 and 3. Those three settings provide quite a wide range of intensity. The oscillations are focused in the attachment you have attached to the end; you won't get a numb hand from holding this toy. I will say, that I had some trouble locating that sliding bar while it was in use. When I wanted to change to a different setting, feeling around for that section and not easily finding it distracted and annoyed me a time or two. Each time I couldn't find it I had to stop and look for it, which killed the mood a bit.

One thing to mention about the Eroscillator 2 Plus, is that you will get the most out of this toy with a gentle touch. If you press down too firmly, you experience a nearly total loss of power. Even wrapping your hand around the attachment and holding it, you can bring the toy to the dead stop. Be forewarned that a feather light touch, and holding the toy just barely against you, is going to be the only way you will experience all the toy has to offer.

The makers of this product claim it is nearly noiseless while in use, and they aren't far off. There is a fair amount of noise when you have no attachment on the end. But, when an attachment is on and you are using it, it is fairly quiet. I would say you won't hear it through a closed door or over the covers. While we're on the subject of covers, one thing I found annoying about this toy is trying to use it under the sheets. The length of the handle and the angle I like for clitoral stimulation, results in me dealing with the covers. I have to either feel them pressing against the body of the toy, and the weight of them tires my arm or limits movement, or I have to use my other hand to hold the covers up and out of my way. I found this distracting. If you don't mind being all out in the open, I suggest going without a cover up to avoid that drama altogether.

The Eroscillator 2 Plus is a corded toy, so it must be plugged in to use it. The cord is long enough to allow for any sort of play you have in mind. I never felt limited by the length of the cord. It was a bit refreshing to not have to worry about allowing time to charge the toy, or make sure I had batteries on hand. This is my first corded toy, and I thought it would bug me, but I found it handy.

It's hard to compare this to other toys in terms of power, but I certainly feel like the Eroscillator 2 Plus brings more than enough power to the table. There has never been a point in any of my sessions with this gem that I thought more power would be nice. In fact, I really enjoy the medium setting, and tend to stay on that one. This is odd for me, as I usually crank up vibrators to the max. I simply don't find it necessary to do that with this toy. I will occasionally crank it up to the high setting, but I don't need to do that to climax from this toy.

Care and Maintenance

As it cannot be submerged, cleaning this toy is strictly a matter of wiping it with a damp cloth. The attachments can be removed and washed with soap and water or your favorite toy cleaner. As the attachments are TPR, they cannot be sterilized. If you intend to share this toy I suggest you cover the attachment you're using with a condom.

There are also instructions included with the Eroscillator 2 Plus which detail how to take it apart for a more thorough cleaning. The blunt rounded end twists off, and the slider bar which controls the speed setting can be removed. Once those are off, you can rinse the body of the toy under running water. Once all parts are dry, you reassemble the body. They do mention to be sure to keep the plug area dry, and not to place it in water at all, not even for cleaning.

A water based lubricant can be used with the Eroscillator 2 Plus, but you should avoid silicone or oil based lubricants. The instructions suggest using a lubricant with the attachments when you used them, and even though I don't tend to use/need a lot of lube with toys when I use them vaginally or clitorally, this is one toy that really works much better if you lube it up. Placing lube in the depressions of the attachments or coating the textured areas really does provide a better experience.

The attachments can be stored together, without the risk of damage. I store all parts in the box they came in, with no trouble or issues.

Packaging

The entire deal comes packaged in a cardboard box. The main body of the toy is wrapped in plastic alone, and the attachments each come in their own plastic bags. I do feel like the package is good for storage; it all fits nicely inside with not a lot of extra space.

The exterior of the box is simple and pretty, and does lend itself to gifting, assuming you are giving it to someone you are comfortable giving a sex toy to.

The Eroscillator 2 Plus comes with a very long instruction booklet, which details cleaning, use and care of the toy. There is certainly enough information provided for even those brand new to toys.

Follow-up commentary
This is one of those iconic toys that is iconic for good reason. I have no complaints with durability, quality, or performance. It is still going strong and getting the job done!
