Okay, who is the very absolute last politician in the history of the world you could ever imagine was gay?
Right: Richard Nixon. Nothing about Nixon betokens anything gay. Not his underestimation of the importance of appearance nor his inability to turn bitter remarks into amusing, catty ones, nothing.
And yet, the Huffington Post reports, a new book, Nixon’s Darkest Secrets: The Inside Story of America’s Most Troubled President, maintains that “the former president had a gay affair with Charles “Bebe” Rebozo, a banker apparently with ties to the mob.”
Then again look at this photo! Dapper, happy. … Maybe.
The book's author, Don Fulsom, is a former UPI bureau who covered five presidencies - Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Clinton. A HuffPo video report on the book, which will be released at the end of January, also has a KPRC news reporting offering, “Publicly, of course, Nixon denounced homosexuality as a mental illness.” Fulsom, HuffPo says, has first-hand accounts and documentation to back up the claims in the book.
