Absolutely Amazing!

I love my Shunga Massage Candle by Shunga Erotic Art! The oil massages onto the skin nicely. It's not too thick, nor is it too thin. The oil does not absorb into the skin quickly so we didn't have to worry about reapplication during our longer massage session. Once the oil is absorbed into the skin, the area where it has been applied feels soft, conditioned, and brand new. I am in love with this candle and plan on purchasing one just for myself.

Pros
45 hour burn time, scent is amazing, cute tin, comes with application spoon, conditions skin.
Cons
takes awhile to absorb into the skin so it's not best for short massages (is this really a con?)

extremely useful review
The Shunga Massage Candle by Shunga Erotic Art is available in four different scents: fruit, rose, vanilla, and lavender. I purchased the vanilla scented candle. The candle arrives in a black tin, sealed in plastic. The lid to the tin states the company name, product name, and scent. The tin, which holds the candle state the cautions, ingredient list, company contact information, burn time, and directions for use. I really like the appearance of the tin!

The tin is 7oz (200ml) and has a burn time of 45 hours. When you first open the tin, you’ll find a little white spoon on the top of the candle for application. The candle is white in colour and has a very strong scent to it. The vanilla has a very sugary sweet scent. It is very similar in scent to the Wish Candle that I had previously reviewed. It smells like a sugary dessert!

The ingredient list on the product page is not the full list of ingredients as stated on the tin. The ingredients as stated on the tin are as follows: Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Coconut Oil (Coco Nucifera Oil), Fragrance, Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus Dulcis Oil), Safflower Oil (Carthamus Tinctorius Oil), Avocado Oil (Persa Americana Oil), Sesame Oil (Sesamum Indicum Oil), Grape Seed Oil (Vitis Vinifera Oil), Vitamin E (Tocopherol), Benzyl Alcohol, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Citral, Eugenol, Isoeugenol, Benzyl Salicylate, Cinnamil, Coumarin, D-Limonene, Geraniol, Benzyl Cinnamate, Lilial, Linalool, Benzyl Benzoate, and Alpha Isomethyl Ionone.

After doing a bit of research on the ingredients, I found that the oils in the ingredients act as skin conditioning agents. Most of the other ingredients are for fragrance. When I searched some of these fragrance ingredients, the allergy concern rating was rather high. While I haven’t experienced any issues with the candle myself, it’s important that you note the ingredients listed above before purchasing the product. It’s especially important since the product page does not state the full list of ingredients.

The directions state that to use the product, you do the following: let the candle burn for 20 minutes, blow out the flame, put oil in palm of your hand, then apply to partner’s body. The only direction that I actually follow out of those 4 is the direction to blow out the flame. I love using the oil from massage candles on my partner’s back. I’ve found that burning the candle for only 20 minutes does not provide much oil, or at least not enough for me to cover my partners entire back. I’ll usually let the candle burn until there is a nice puddle forming inside of the candle. Once the puddle looks like it’s enough oil, that’s when I’ll blow the flame out. Below is a photo of the candle after it’s been lit for 25 minutes.

The included spoon for application is extremely convenient to use. The Wish Candle that I have did not come with anything to apply the oil with so I ended up with a very messy looking tin. The directions state to put the oil into the palm of your hand before application but I prefer to just apply it directly to my partner’s back. The oil is warm but not hot enough to hurt your partner. If you’ve never used a candle before, you could apply it to your hands first or drip the oil onto your partner’s skin from a further distance if you’re worried about the warmth of the oil.

Surprisingly, the vanilla scent is not as strong when the candle is burning. Many candles I’ve tried have filled the room with the scent, but not this one. You have to be close to the candle to smell the scent of it while it’s burning. This is great for those who have very sensitive noses but when I find a lovely scent that I like, I want the whole room to smell like the candle! When I applied the oil to the skin, the scent can be smelt during application and does linger on the skin once it’s been rubbed in. The lingering scent that is left on your skin is fairly strong but can be washed off if you find it too overbearing.

When the oil is first applied to the skin, it is a bit runny. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. My very first massage candle produced really thick oil, which was hard to massage all over my partner because of how thick it was.
Experience

The oil that the Shunga candle produces is very easy to rub across my partner’s skin. The oil does not absorb quickly either so it works perfectly for longer massage sessions. You’ll need to make sure that you rub the oil into the skin well though or else the skin will be left feeling a bit greasy.

After the oil has been completely rubbed into the skin, the area where it was applied feels amazing! It leaves your skin feeling smooth and moisturized. I absolutely love the way this candle leaves my skin feeling. I’m actually considering getting another candle so that I can use it on myself after my relaxing baths. This is my new favourite candle.

The candle has a burn time of 45 hours. I’m unsure of how accurate this is because I am nowhere close to finishing the candle. The candle does seem to burn rather slowly though so it should last for many, many hours! When I compare the Shunga Massage Candle to the Wish Candle that I have, Shunga blows the other candle away! While the Shunga candle is $1.00 more, you’re getting 15 more hours of burn time, and almost 3 oz more product. Also, the quality of the oil of the Shunga candle is a million times better than the Wish Candle.

This candle gets a 5 out of 5 rating from me. I love everything about the candle. I would absolutely recommend this candle to others whether they are new to using massage candles or have been using them for years. I’m hoping to pick up a few of the other scents as soon as I can.
Follow-up commentary
I still love the candle. It's my favourite candle out of all the ones that I had tried. I love the scent, it lasts a long time, and it's a great price.
