Dona body butter - body moisturizer discontinued by System JO - review by VioletMoonstone

DONA from System JO is a collection of natural aphrodisiac infused bodycare items ranging from body butter (like I'm reviewing here) to body wash, body lotion, massage candles, and more. These products are considered to be part of a sensual and indulgent pampering ritual that consists of five steps:

1. Relax
2. Cleanse
3. Nourish
4. Illuminate
5. Engage

DONA adds a sensual element to their products. They are meant to relax you, nourish you, make your skin feel soft, and make you feel sexy! They stand out from your typical day to day bodycare items in that they are infused with "super fruit" aphrodisiacs that not only take care of your body but also give your mind a sense of calm. I feel sexy when my skin is clean, moisturized, soft, and my mind is relaxed. Don't you?

For my first DONA product I chose the body butter. The body butter is part of the "nourish" ritual. This soft velvety body butter is thicker than lotion and is meant for deeper moisturizing. It works great on dry skin, particularly dry knees and elbows. It allows you to "melt into sensual softness" because "your skin deserves the richness."

DONA is obviously made for the ladies but I don't see why men couldn't use this product too. The scent is very light and this can easily be a unisex product for both men and women. If you have dry skin, particularly in the winter months when the heater is zapping all the moisture out of your skin this will work great! If you have dry skin or need a thick moisturizer then you'll really like this product. It's like a tall glass of water for your parched skin. The container is pretty and would make a nice gift as well.

Body butter is meant to be thicker and more concentrated than regular body lotion. The texture is very creamy, velvety, soft, and thick. If you scoop a little onto your finger and turn your hand upside down it won't drip off. I opened the container and turned the whole thing upside down and didn't drip or fall out at all. I absolutely love the texture of this body butter! It's not too thick and not too thin. It's the perfect balance of thick and creamy! The body butter itself is opaque and white and almost looks like frosting.

A little bit of body butter goes a long way! It's slightly greasy and takes a long time to rub into the skin if you use too much at once. If you use too much you'll get white streaks that take forever to rub in. This is perfect if you're taking your time pampering yourself but not such a good thing if you're impatient or in a hurry. The body butter contains a lot of natural moisturizing oils and butters that tend to sit on the skin for a long time afterwards and can give your skin a bit of a sheen and a greasy feeling. If you use too much on large areas of the body you could end up feeling shiny and "lotiony" for a long time after you apply it. If you use it sparingly it melts into the skin and leaves your skin feeling extremely soft and supple.

I chose the camu-camu aphrodesiac (all the DONA products are named after their aphrodisiac ingredient not their scent!) after reading a few reviews here and there I was expecting camu-camu to smell like warm fluffy towels and coconuts. I was pretty disappointed when I unscrewed the lid and smelled it. My first thought what that I hardly smelled anything at all! After smelling a few more times I definitely smell a faint whiff of playdough. I don't smell yummy coconuts, fluffy towels, almonds, or anything similar. It just smells like playdough but very light and airy. It's a clean smell and it's very light but I don't love it. If the scent was any stronger than it is I probably wouldn't want to use it. It's so light that I hardly smell anything at all which is a good thing because the actual body butter itself is awesome. I'd definitely purchase this product again but in a different scent next time. I just want to stress that it's not terrible or anything but it's not something I particularly enjoying smelling either. When I apply it I don't really smell anything at all. Maybe it's just me? It smells clean, airy, and play-doughy in my opinion.

So what the heck is camu-camu anyway? I'll admit I had no idea what that was. At first I thought it was the actual scent but it's actually the name of the aphrodisiac that's infused in the body butter. I went online and learned that camu-camu is a bush that grows in the Amazonian rainforests of Peru. It produces camu-camu berries that look sort of like a hybrid between cranberries and grapes. Camu-Camu is known for it's amazing health benefits. The vitamin C found in high quality camu-camu berries can contain up to 30 times more vitamin C than oranges! Plus they can improve your mood giving them an aphrodisiac effect! -wink wink- They are traditionally used to make a juice that the natives of the rainforest drink to help support their immune systems. It's also crushed and dried into powder for use in drinks or in supplement pills to make it easier to consume. Of course none of these claims have actually been evaluated by the FDA (like a lot of herbal remedies ect.) but everything I researched about camu-camu sounds incredible. Guess what? This body butter contains camu-camu powder!

When I first tried the body butter I used about a quarter sized amount and rubbed it between my hands to warm it up before applying it to my arms. I concentrated on my elbows which always seem to be dry no matter what I use. I noticed that it takes a while to rub in and makes your skin feel lotiony and slightly greasy until it melts into your skin. It could take a few minutes or even longer depending on how dry your skin is to begin with. If your skin is dry it'll absorb fast but if your skin is normal or already moisturized it'll probably sit in the skin for a long time. It's definitely something I'd prefer to use before bedtime or right after a hot shower. It made my skin felt really soft! Plus it's long lasting and the softness lasted for hours. I didn't really feel any obvious aphrodisiac effects other than feeling sexier because of my super soft skin!

I love everything about this body butter except the scent. My favorite thing about this product is the velvety texture and the moisturizing benefits. I also like that it's unique from anything I've ever tried before. It makes me feel like I'm indulging in something exotic because of the camu-camu powder, plus it makes me feel pampered and soft as a kitten. It relaxes me and makes me want to take my time with it. The scent is my least favorite thing about it.

Wow, Edenfantasy's sure ships fast! It only took two days to get here! When I first received my order the body butter was inside of a plastic baggy that was knotted at the top. Thankfully it didn't leak or anything but if it had it would have been kept seperate from the other products in my box. I really appreciate the extra effort of wrapping up liquids and lotions in plastic bags just in case.

The body butter comes in a plastic tub with a black plastic lid that screws on/off. The body butter contains 5 oz. which is plenty, trust me! A little goes a long way and they actually give you quite a bit of product. There's a sticker label with a very sexy hotpink and black lace design that says, "DONA by JO, Camu-Camu body butter." On the side are some symbols that say, "paraben free, cruelty free, natural, and petro. deriv. free." Having really good quality products means a lot to me. The bottom has a large round sticker with an address and website (which doesn't work!) for System JO plus a long ingredient list. Some of the ingredients include: purified water, safflower oil, shea butter, hemp seed oil, beeswax, vitamin E, olive oil, passion fruit seed oil, rice bran oil, acai pulp oil, aloe, grape seed oil, camu-camu powder, fragrance, ect.

Infused with the aphrodisiac camu-camu powder. Contains lots of natural oils, shea butter, and beeswax. Natural, cruelty free, paraben free, and no petro derivitives!

If you're looking for a really cozy and cuddly scent that's smells more like milk and almonds you should check out the Milk body butter from Venus. It smells so good! When it comes down to comparing scents I like Milk a lot better! I'd still love to try the other products from DONA but I wouldn't get this scent again.
