Use

What is Body Butter?

Body butter is a skin moisturizer used by many to combat dry skin. It is heavier than normal lotions and has nutrient-rich ingredients. Many use body butters during the winter to hydrate and protect the skin.

The number 1 reason to use body butter is to moisturize your skin.

How do you use it?

Body butter works best when used right after your shower or bath. Get out of the tub and lightly dab your skin, don't rub it. You want to keep as much water on your skin as possible. Apply the butter liberally over your entire body, with a heavy concentration on your driest areas such as your elbows, knees and feet. It will restore moisture to your skin and help replenish the healthy look. It is very useful for those of us who get really dry during the winter months.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

All of the body butters that I have tried have a smooth, silky texture. They are thicker than my lotion and seem to last longer on my skin. It feels very nice on my skin. None of the butters had a greasy or sticky feel to them. They stay in place until you rub them in and of the three the Mangosteen seems to be the thinnest.

The Camu Camu has a very strong smell when opened that reminded my husband and I of playdoh. It was so strong that I wasn't even gonna try it on my skin at first. I debated this for a few days before I finally tried it. When I first applied the Camu Camu butter, it still smelled like playdoh for probably the first 10 minutes that I was wearing it. After 10 minutes I had a light floral scent that reminded me of coconuts. The mangosteen butter was thinner than the other two but it also seemed to have a little something extra in it. I am not sure if you can tell in the pictures above but the mangosteen has small dots throughout the butter. I have no clue what they are but it gives the mangosteen body butter a distinctly different appearance from it's counterparts. The mangosteen body butter smells exactly like the body polish of the same flavor except it has no coffee smell to it. The pomegranate is not a strong smell like the Camu Camu. It has a sort of melon smell to it. I would say that this is my favorite flavor of the three that I have tried so far.

Performance

I have found that products in this line last a good bit longer when used together. The Mangosteen body butter stays with me for a while but lasted hours longer when I used the mangosteen body polish and body wash before putting it on. The same held true for the pomegranate bath milk, bath wash and body butter. They work fine alone but you get much better and longer results when you use them together.

If you don't want to buy the whole line in a certain flavor, I recommend using the body butter before drying your body completely. It will hold the moisture in that much longer which will be wonderful for your skin. During the winter I normally get several dry areas on my body, about the size of a quarter. I have tried everything to get them to go away, nothing ever seems to work for long. Using the Dona body butter has produced the best results I have seen so far. I can still see the spots but they don't appear as dry and I don't have to reapply the butter as much as I had been applying the lotion.

Packaging

All of the DONA products come in recyclable bottles and jars. They are wrapped in a plastic bag that is then tied to prevent any of the product leaking out. All of the products have had a seal over the top of the container under the lid except for the butter and it is so thick I don't believe it would leak anyway. The body butters all have the same beautiful fuschia colored labels with a black lace overlay on them.
    • Recyclable
    • Travel friendly
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

Before I finished my review I wanted to give you some of the information I have found about different ingredients present in this product.

Passiflora Edulis (Passion Fruit) Seed Oil- reduces anxiety, improves sleep, and reduces stress and fatigue. Passion fruit oil is rich in linoleic acid, which acts to aid in the restoration of the lipid layer of the skin and provides moisturizing and emollient properties that increase the silkiness of the skin.

Oriza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil- is a natural antioxidant and is also moisturizing agent.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter- is reported to have anti-inflammatory, emollient and humectant properties. Shea butter has been used as a sunblocking lotion and has a limited capacity to absorb ultraviolet radiation.

Cannabis Sativa (hemp) Seed Oil- is a moisturizing agent

Allantoin- derived from Comfrey Root, known for its ability to heal wounds and stimulate the growth of healthy tissue

Aloe Barbadensis leaf Extract-- made from the plant Aloe barbadensis, which is also commonly called Aloe vera. It enhances the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness.
It has long been believed that Aloe improves wound-healing and skin inflammation.

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) seed oil- It contains more linoleic acid than many other carrier oils. It is an antioxidant, strengthens connective tissue. Stabilizes collagen and elastin, helping to improve elasticity and youthfulness of the skin, protects and provides a defense against harsh environmental factors such as hot sunlight, free radicals (cigarette smoke, fluorescent lighting, air conditioning, etc),comprised of deep nourishing benefits enabling quick healing of chapped, dry skin.

Laminaria Digitata (Algae) Extract- extracted from Atlantic kelp, it increases skin elasticity, protects and hydrates skin

Experience

I have a distinct idea in my head of the perfect times to wear each of the 3 butters. Camu Camu should be worn when you want to feel elegant and girly. Mangosteen should be worn when you are feeling a little flirty, like when you're going out to a club. The pomegranate is for those quiet evenings at home, when you and your special someone are going to be cuddled up together. It was especially pleasing when my husband walked up behind me as I was preparing to watch a little tv and said, "Mmmmm, you smell goooood..." Needless to say the tv was definitely on the back burner that night.

I simply can't tell you in enough ways how much I am enjoying using the DONA line of products. It is what I have been looking for and I didn't even realize it.

My skin has never felt so soft as it has since I started using this body butter.
Follow-up commentary
I still love the body butter. My skin feels so soft and the smell is wonderful. I use it generously, right after my shower and I can smell it for hours.
