Mangosteen? Mango? It all smells the same to me!

Dona's body butter is fantastic! I love all the scents they offer, and would eventually like to try all of the scents! You get a lot of value out of this rather large jar, and the scent and moisturizers last much longer than I expected.

Use

This amazing-smelling aphrodisiac-packed body butter by Dona is phenomenal. It goes beyond moisturizing to work away all my dry areas. I have eczema and found this to soothe my dry spots very well. This body butter is great for anywhere that needs long-term moisturizing externally. That means it is NOT to be used near orifices, especially genitals.

Personally I find it great to use this body butter right after I take a bath or shower. My skin craves moisture as the water leaves my skin, and if I don't tend to its needs, I somehow regret it later. It also gives off a lovely scent that lasts for a relatively long time, so if you don't need moisturizing, you can at least smell great for hours!

Simply unscrew the lid and use a finger or two to rub the body butter into your skin. Body butter is much thicker than other lotions, so it is not necessary to use more than a small amount. If you have skin allergies, test a small amount somewhere hidden first to see if there is any allergic reaction to this product.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

I've used one other type of body butter in the past, and this one was a little thinner and oilier than the other one I used. Indeed, after reading a few other reviews, other users found this to be thinner than they expected.

It is smooth and not very runny at all. It goes on thicker than body lotion and takes a lot of rubbing to get fully absorbed into the skin. I would compare the viscosity to something like mayonnaise or Greek yogurt (it's thicker than regular yogurt).

Taste / Aroma

Aroma is one of the hardest things to describe for me, but even though mangosteen is a fruit much different than mangoes, that is one of the smells I first noticed. It's very tropical and creamy. If you have ever had mango lassi, I would say this smells similar but a little sweeter. There aren't any notes of chemicals for me, which is great! Some people might find this smell overwhelmingly sweet, but I've got a big sweet tooth myself and didn't mind it at all.

It lasts a very long time. If I put this on after my shower in the mornings, I can still smell it in the evening if I sniff my skin. Because it's not weird to randomly sniff your skin, right?

I don't know how it tastes and I don't recommend tasting this, as it's not meant to be ingested.
    • Smells good
    • Strong smell

Performance

As with most body butters, less is more with this product. Even with a little dab, this product can be worked into a rather large surface area. I found that using too much really got messy, but washes off easily with soap and water if there's too much to deal with.

I purchased the Mangosteen scent. Here is what it looks like in the tub:

The first time I used this, I put a bit too much on my hand and ended up having to wash it off because I couldn't get it to absorb fully. This is what it looks like before rubbed into the skin:

After rubbing it in, I noticed these little brown dots left on my skin. They weren't that noticeable and didn't take away anything from the product. You can tell from the picture of the tub that there are brown specks in the body butter itself. Again, this is from the Mangosteen scent. Here it is pictured on my hand:

    • Absorbs into skin nicely
    • Long lasting

Packaging

This body butter comes in a small tub without any packaging at all. It has a removable white wax-coated cardboard cover to separate the body butter from the lid, and it can be discarded after opening. You get four whole ounces/118 milliliters with this tub, which is a lot for the price this goes for. It's definitely a great deal!

The label on the tub says, "apply liberally to entire body as often as needed."

The ingredients list on the tub are shown as follows:
Purified Water, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oil, Caprylic Capric Triglycerides, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Saccharide Isomerate, Cetearyl Olivate, Cetyl Palmitate, Sorbitan Palmitate, Sorbitan Olivate, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Beeswax, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Olea Europeae (Olive) Fruit Oil, Passiflora Edulis (Passion Fruit) Seed Oil, Oriza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) pulp Oil, Orbignya Oleifera (Babassu) Seed Oil, Maltodextrin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta Glucan, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis leaf Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) seed oil, Laminaria Digitata (Algae) Extract, Theobroma graniflorum (Cupuacu) Butter, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance.
    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Would make a nice gift

Special Features

One cool feature of the Dona line by JO is that it has a five step process to go through to totally pamper yourself. The body butter is step three. Here are all the steps together from JO:

Relax—to slow down and set the sensual tone
Cleanse—to purify your body using luxurious lathers, exfoliators, and gels
Nourish—to make your skin touchable and kissably soft
Illuminate—to enhance your natural beauty and space
Engage – to share the fun with sensual, play products

The jar claims to be recyclable, and the product is paraban-free, cruelty-free, natural, and petro. deriv. free. Yay!
Follow-up commentary
I use this body butter from time to time, and think it smells great. I love how long it lasts and the scent is just wonderful. The small brown specks that come from the mangosteen scent is still a mystery. I think this is worth the buy. Next time I'll try out the pomegranate one.
