Uma vs. Mona 2 Showdown

Uma is not the top dog of G-spot vibes: it's not powerful or rumbly enough. Mona 2 is the reigning queen, but that doesn't mean Uma doesn't have its own charms. Uma is definitely not weak, excels at comfort, reliability, quietness and safety. If you need a smaller G-spot insertable and don't appreciate Mona 2's larger girth, Uma is for you.

Use

The Je Joue Uma is a small to medium sized G-spot vibrator, with a modest curve for stimulation upon penetration or thrusting. While it has a good amount of power, it's no Mimi and certainly no Lelo Mona 2. For the purpose of this review, I'll try to describe Uma in her own right, but also in comparison to the Mona 2.

Uma would be great for...
1. Rechargeable vibe fans
2. Waterproof, silicone, single-material toy fans
3. Those who found the Mona 2 too large

Uma doesn't quite deliver...
1. On the power.
2. On the G-spotting curve -- not dramatic enough
3. Not a teaser; almost solely for insertion and stimulating the G-spot internally

Unlike the Mona 2, the Uma isn't powerful or versatile enough to also act as a clitoral vibe. However, it is 100% premium, seamless silicone, so it's safe to share after cleaning and waterproof. Uma has a tapered neck, but I wouldn't recommend it for anal insertion. The location of the vibrations also precludes pinpoint stimulation if you enjoy using vibes on other erogenous zones. Luckily, at least this motor location is optimized for G-spot stimulation when inserted, since it should face the front wall of the vaginal canal.

Material / Texture

The Je Joue Uma is made of matte silicone with absolutely no texture. The only markings on the surface of the toy is the logo and "Je Joue", near the bottom of the toy but it's far away from the play surface. It has some drag, and feels slightly velvety but not sticky. I chose the pink color (to match my Mimi) and they are absolutely identical in color and material. The Uma has absolutely no taste or smell (beyond a slight odor that I associate with silicone toys -- you have to put it right up to your nose).

Like Mimi, Uma can require a fair amount of lube, since the silicone can feel 'thirsty' in use -- be generous, extra slickness will transmit vibrations well.

Uma is not quite as light as the Mimi, though it certainly won't strain your hand or arm to use. Uma is completely rigid, since the silicone skin surrounds a firm, plastic core. This silicone skin is absolutely seamless, even with the charging port located on the far end of the toy.

Design / Shape / Size

The Uma is both a smaller G-spotter and a more modestly curved toy than others in its class and style, most notably the Mona 2.

Measurements:
Uma is fairly petite, non-threatening and isn't much longer than my hand. I can easily palm the girth of insertable tip. The insertable length of Uma likely ends around the tapered neck, though you could go farther if you desired.

Measu

G-spotting toys tend to have two approaches:
1. Wild curves that place pressure on the G-spot during thrusting or rocking actions for dynamic stimulation;
2. Oval/spherical bulbs that, when squeezed by your Kegel muscles during play, will stimulate the G-spot in a slightly more passive manner.

Uma half-heartedly tries to hedge its bets: the small, 30 degree angle tries for the first option while the wimpy girth attempts the second option.

Now, if your G-spot is not picky, Uma has other great features that will make it a good toy for you. These include: material (covered above), rechargeability, fair strength, good battery life, waterproof, attractive, discreet design and quietness. Luckily for me, my G-spot isn't picky and Uma and I can be friends.

However, I was expecting more... mostly in power. As I've found with many toy makers that have 'lines' of luxury toys (Leaf, Fun Factory, We-Vibe) they actually don't use the same motors for all their toys. This is a shame, since you might purchase a toy of the same size and price range expecting the same power and not receive it. That being said, I doubt Uma has the same motor as Mimi, or the vibrations aren't being transmitted the same. Uma is Mimi's weaker, buzzier sister.

Compared to the Mona 2:

Uma and Mona 2

Getting the Uma really made me appreciate the Mona 2 (even more so, actually)! As you can see above, Mona actually tries to go for both the G-spot stimulation options, full-tilt. Mona has a much more dramatic curve at ~45 degrees and a bulkier bulb. But I'm singing all the Mona 2's praises: that bulb can be a bit difficult to insert and I would definitely say that Uma excels in comfortable insertion.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Mona 2 is more powerful than Uma -- Mona is rumblier and has a full vroom's worth more power. When it comes to insertable vibrators, rumbly is the key to really feeling the vibrations, since buzzy, high-frequency vibes will be absorbed by your body.

It's too bad that Uma falls into this category, of G-vibes that are too buzzy for their own good. However, Je Joue attempted to optimize it performance by placing the motor slightly away from the tip, more in the curve. This does allow the motor to be placed directly against your G-spot, which I appreciate.

Unforunately, Mona 2 can one-up that: Mona 2 has similar motor placement and I suspect there might be two vibrating components inside Lelo's masterpiece. Sorry, Uma.

The Water Test:
I found a good way to visualize vibrations, especially in comparison to other toys. High-frequency, buzzy vibrations create small, tight ripples of water while rumbly vibrators create large ripples. More powerful toys in general move the water much more than weaker ones.

The Uma is pictured in the top; then the Mona 2 and finally the Mimi. Uma is the weakest of all three and the buzziest. Even though I'm disappointed with Uma's buzzier nature, Uma is by far not a very buzzy toy. Certainly, Uma is not a weakling and feels good -- just not as good as the other two.

Functions and Patterns:
Uma has 5 levels of steady vibration, beginning at 2 vrooms and ending at 4 vrooms. The difference between the 4th and most strongest level of vibration is unfortunately just an addition of buzziness, not really a jump in power.

The function button is incredibly hard to press. I've heard people complain about Mimi and Uma's buttons and I've never had a problem with the + and - buttons -- but the function button is crazy hard to get at! It's smaller than the other two and slightly recessed compared to the two main buttons. The functions Uma provides could be described as:

1. Wave
2. Slow wave
3. Pulse
4. Fast pulse
5. Faster pulse
6. Stutter

Charging port:
Uma, like the Mimi, charges via a magnetic port through the two main buttons, + and -. This magnetic plug is curved to fit the bottom of the Uma, something Fun Factory never figured out. This means that the connection is fairly stable and reliable.

Mag charger
charging light

Uma has a charging indicator, in the form of a little red light in the center of the Je Joue heart logo (pretty cute, right?) While charging, which takes about 1.5 - 2 hours, Uma's red light will blink. When Uma is done charging, the red light will be steady, just like Uma is on and vibrating.

Care and Maintenance

Je Joue made their Uma just like the Mimi: easy to clean and waterproof, which is very helpful in the maintenance process. Uma is compatible with toy wipes, warm soap and water or a 10% bleach solution. The non-porous silicone skin does not retain smells and is safe to share after any of these cleaning methods. However, don't place Uma in the dishwasher, microwave or boiling water as this will damage its electronic components.

Uma is 100% premium silicone, which means water-based lubricants are your best option. Silicone lubes are not recommended, though a high-grade silicone lube may be patch-tested prior to first use. Use at your own discretion.

Uma comes with a very attractive, black box that presents the toy in a slightly curved trough. This box is great for storage or gifting and contains the toy in a fairly secure manner. Uma and Mimi come with very similar packaging, which I think is the bee's knees -- I also own the Sasi, which came with different and much less practical storage.

Follow-up commentary
There's definitely a place for Uma in my toy box. I've actually found that, when I'm in the mood for a slim G-spotter (which for me, is most of the time) without skimping on power, Uma is my choice. Mona 2, I've found, can be slightly uncomfortable due to the very large bulge and Uma bypasses this problem well.

I've had 4 different Uma vibrators. Each seemed different from the next. Still a great toy. Great review.

You have saved me the mistake of trying this (I was tempted to get a used one for cheap)! Thanks for such a great comparative review! I have a Mona 2, so I was able to relate my experience with that to how it stacked up to the Uma in your tests. And of course, the water pix are so helpful! Buzzy is definitely not my thing!
